Kolkata: The West Bengal government has effected a major reshuffle in the police administration, transferring 23 IPS and West Bengal Police Service officers to different positions across the state. The reshuffle includes significant changes in Kolkata Police, the Intelligence Branch, CID, Bidhannagar and Barrackpore Police Commissionerates.
Among the key changes, Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Special Task Force (STF), has been appointed as Additional Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. He will replace Devendra Prakash Singh, who has been transferred as Inspector General of the Intelligence Branch, North Bengal.
Major Changes in Kolkata Police
Several senior officers have been given new responsibilities in Kolkata Police as part of the reshuffle.
- Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam has been appointed Additional Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, replacing Devendra Prakash Singh.
- Bholanath Pandey, currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Intelligence Branch, has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police.
- Pandey will replace Surya Pratap Yadav, who has been entrusted with the responsibility of DIG, State Intelligence Branch.
- Sukhen Hira, presently serving as a DIG in West Bengal, will take charge as Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police.
- Soumyadip Bhattacharya, currently serving as Commanding Officer of the S 1st Battalion, has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cyber-II, Kolkata.
- Sparsha Nilangi, Deputy Commissioner in the Kolkata Enforcement Branch, has been transferred as DCP, Detective Department, Kolkata.
Changes in Intelligence Branch and CID
The reshuffle has also brought changes to the state’s Intelligence Branch and Criminal Investigation Department.
Devendra Prakash Singh, who was serving as an Additional Police Commissioner in Kolkata, has been transferred and appointed Inspector General of the Intelligence Branch, North Bengal.
Meanwhile, Surya Pratap Yadav has been given responsibility as DIG of the State Intelligence Branch.
In the CID, the following changes have been announced:
- Dhritiman Sarkar has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Malda CID.
- Arish Bilal has been posted as Superintendent of Police, West Bengal CID.
Changes in Bidhannagar and Barrackpore
The reshuffle also includes key appointments in the Bidhannagar and Barrackpore Police Commissionerates.
- Debarshi Dutta, currently serving as DIG in the West Bengal Police Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar.
- Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed has been transferred as DCP, Detective Department, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
- Kuntal Banerjee has been appointed DCP, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.

23 Officers Transferred in Major West Bengal Police Reshuffle
The latest order involves the transfer and reassignment of 23 IPS and West Bengal Police Service officers. The changes cover several important policing and administrative positions, including senior posts in Kolkata Police, Intelligence Branch, CID, Bidhannagar and Barrackpore.
The reshuffle is expected to bring changes in the leadership and functioning of several key police units across West Bengal, with officers being assigned new responsibilities in different operational and investigative roles.
