West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday interacted with 12 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) probationers of the 2025 West Bengal cadre, encouraging them to place public welfare at the heart of governance as they prepare to begin district-level training across the state.
The officers are currently undergoing training at the Netaji Subhas Administrative Training Institute (NSATI) and will soon move to districts for a year-long field assignment designed to provide practical exposure to local governance and development challenges.
Focus on Service, Integrity and Grassroots Governance
During the meeting, the Chief Minister praised the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by the young officers and urged them to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, empathy and dedication.
Sharing details of the interaction on social media platform X, Adhikari said the probationers would soon begin district training to gain a deeper understanding of the realities faced by citizens at the grassroots level. He stressed that administrative decisions should always be guided by the welfare of ordinary people.
The Chief Minister also expressed confidence in the new generation of civil servants, stating that they would play a key role in shaping the future of governance in the state.
Industry Engagement to Explore Growth Opportunities
Apart from the interaction with IAS trainees, Adhikari also met Prasoon Mukherjee, Chairman of Universal Success Enterprises Limited, a multinational company headquartered in Singapore.
The meeting focused on exploring potential avenues for collaboration that could contribute to economic growth and create new opportunities in West Bengal. The Chief Minister said such engagements are important for attracting investment and supporting the state’s long-term development objectives.
Government Initiates Process for KMC Delimitation
In another significant development, Adhikari announced plans to initiate the delimitation of wards under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), citing large variations in voter populations across different wards.
According to the Chief Minister, some wards currently have more than 50,000 voters while others have fewer than 10,000, creating an imbalance in representation and administrative management.
He said the Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs (UDMA) would submit recommendations regarding the proposed changes. However, the actual delimitation exercise will be carried out by the State Election Commission in accordance with established procedures.
The move is expected to streamline urban governance and ensure a more balanced distribution of voters across municipal wards, strengthening local administration in Kolkata.
