Forest Officials Build Bridge Amid Challenging Terrain to Ensure Wildlife Protection

IFS Parveen Kaswan shares video of forest officials building a bridge after a river shift to ensure continued wildlife protection.
Indian Masterminds Stories

In a remarkable display of dedication, Mr. Parveen Kaswan, a 2006 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer from the West Bengal cadre, shared an inspiring story of forest officials overcoming challenging conditions to protect wildlife and natural resources.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kaswan highlighted the construction of a bridge deep within a forest, necessitated by a river changing its course, which had disrupted access to vital protection areas.

“Since we have to go where nothing goes, after the river changed its course, we had to build a new bridge to access the other part of the forest for protection duty,” Kaswan shared, alongside a video capturing the rugged terrain and the newly constructed bridge. The footage vividly showcased the difficult conditions faced by forest rangers working in remote, often inaccessible areas.

Elaborating further in a previous post, Kaswan explained the importance of connectivity in forest protection efforts. “Connectivity is very important for patrolling and anti-poaching duties. During the monsoon, when rivers change their course, we have to build our own infrastructure to continue our duties. One such ongoing bridge work is deep inside the forest,” he said.

Social media users were quick to praise the forest officials for their perseverance. One user commented, “Best thing to happen in 2024, naturally,” while another expressed admiration, saying, “Kudos to the team for their dedication to the cause.”

The video and Kaswan’s posts underscore the critical role infrastructure plays in forest management, especially in the face of nature’s unpredictable challenges. The efforts of forest officials like Kaswan highlight their unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s precious wildlife and ecosystems, even in the most remote and difficult locations.
