New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Wednesday approved a series of significant administrative decisions involving senior IAS officers, including the premature repatriation of two officers to their parent cadres and the assignment of an additional charge to a serving Secretary in the Government of India.
The decisions, notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), involve senior officers serving in NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Finance, and the Department of Economic Affairs.
Rohit Kumar Repatriated to Rajasthan Cadre
Senior IAS officer Rohit Kumar, currently serving as Additional Secretary in NITI Aayog, has been prematurely repatriated to his parent Rajasthan cadre.
According to the DoPT order, the ACC approved his repatriation on the request of the Rajasthan Government, along with the imposition of an extended cooling-off period.
Rohit Kumar, a 1997-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, had been serving as Additional Secretary in NITI Aayog since July 2025. His central deputation had earlier been extended by one year, from September 24, 2025, to September 24, 2026.
However, he will now return to his parent cadre nearly three months before completing the extended tenure.
Career Background
Before his posting in NITI Aayog, Rohit Kumar served in the Cabinet Secretariat, where he held positions as Joint Secretary and later Additional Secretary from May 2022 onwards.
Prior to that, he worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of Rural Development from September 2018, handling key rural governance and development portfolios.
Sajjan Singh Yadav Repatriated to AGMUT Cadre
In another major decision, senior IAS officer Sajjan Singh Yadav, currently serving as Special Secretary in the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance, has also been prematurely repatriated to his parent AGMUT cadre.
The ACC approved the move following a request from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Mr Yadav, a 1995-batch IAS officer, has been associated with the Department of Expenditure since August 2019. He initially joined as Joint Secretary and subsequently rose through the ranks after empanelment at higher levels, eventually serving at Additional Secretary and Secretary-equivalent levels.
Long Stint in Finance Ministry
During his nearly seven-year tenure in the Department of Expenditure, Yadav handled several critical financial and expenditure management assignments.
Before joining the Finance Ministry, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, where he dealt with various welfare and policy-related matters.
Anuradha Thakur Assigned Additional Charge of Expenditure Secretary
The ACC has also approved the assignment of additional charge of Secretary, Department of Expenditure, to senior IAS officer Anuradha Thakur.
Currently serving as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Anuradha Thakur will hold the additional responsibility from June 4 to June 14, 2026.
The arrangement has been made during the leave period of Vumlunmang Vualnam, who is serving as Secretary, Department of Expenditure.
Dual Responsibility in Finance Ministry
With this additional assignment, Anuradha Thakur will oversee two of the most critical departments within the Finance Ministry simultaneously.
The Department of Economic Affairs is responsible for economic policy formulation, budgetary matters, multilateral financing, and capital markets, while the Department of Expenditure manages government spending, fiscal controls, and public financial management.
The temporary arrangement is expected to ensure continuity in decision-making during Vualnam’s absence.
The appointments and repatriations were approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and notified by DoPT.
These decisions mark another round of senior-level administrative adjustments within the Central Government, impacting key institutions including NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Finance.
