New Delhi: The 11th Ayurveda Day, celebrated on September 23 under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow,” recorded large-scale public participation across India and abroad, with more than 22,000 activities reported through the official Ayurveda Day digital platform.
According to the Ministry of Ayush, 13,10,690 participants registered for the celebrations, while 1,32,47,311 citizens extended their support for Ayurveda through the official digital platform. More than 90,000 images were also submitted to document activities and public participation.
The figures highlight the scale of this year’s Ayurveda Day campaign, which brought together citizens, educational institutions, healthcare and wellness organisations, communities and government institutions.
Ayurveda Day Sees Participation Across States
The celebrations were organised across states and Union Territories, with Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh among the states reporting extensive participation.
The official digital platform, ayurvedaday.org.in, provided a common mechanism for citizens, institutions and organisations to register their participation and report activities conducted as part of the celebrations.
The activities were not limited to major cities. Programmes were organised through communities and institutions to increase awareness about Ayurveda and encourage public engagement with traditional health and wellness practices.
Earlier in the campaign, the Ministry had reported more than 9,700 activities across 30 States and Union Territories before the main Ayurveda Day. At that stage, more than 3.6 lakh participants had registered and nearly 89.3 lakh citizens had pledged support.

More Than 38 Countries Join Ayurveda Day
The 11th Ayurveda Day also recorded participation outside India, with activities reported from more than 38 countries.
Countries reporting activities included the United Kingdom, United States, China, Japan, Finland, Afghanistan, Ghana, New Zealand, Russia, Georgia and Albania, among others.
The international participation indicates the wider reach of Ayurveda Day as an awareness and public-engagement initiative. The Ministry said communities and organisations in different parts of the world participated in activities centred on Ayurveda awareness and wellness.
This year’s international participation follows the government’s continuing efforts to expand the global presence of Ayurveda through education, research, institutional partnerships and international cooperation.
From Health Camps to Medicinal Plant Drives
The celebrations featured a wide range of activities designed to connect Ayurveda with community participation and healthy living.
These included:
- Ayurveda awareness programmes and public outreach campaigns
- Health and wellness camps
- Educational programmes in institutions
- Medicinal plant plantation and conservation drives
- Activities promoting Ayurveda Ahara and healthy dietary practices
- Citizen engagement and awareness campaigns
The digital platform also allowed participating organisations to report and document their activities, creating a central record of the nationwide celebrations.
The approach builds on the Ministry’s broader effort to use Ayurveda Day as a platform for preventive healthcare awareness and public engagement. The government had designated September 23 as the fixed annual date for Ayurveda Day in 2025.
“Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow”
The theme for Ayurveda Day 2026 was “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.”
The Ministry of Ayush had said the 2026 observance would focus on connecting Ayurveda’s traditional knowledge with contemporary healthcare needs, with emphasis on evidence, research, innovation and community wellbeing.
The main national celebration was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where scientific sessions and other programmes focused on the future of Ayurveda, research and innovation, integrated healthcare and the role of Ayurveda in addressing public health challenges.
Focus on Evidence, Research and Innovation
The 11th Ayurveda Day was not limited to awareness activities. The national celebration also featured several initiatives aimed at strengthening the institutional and research ecosystem around Ayurveda.
According to the Ministry, the celebrations included the launch of safety dossiers, standard treatment guidelines, the Ayush Services Sector Report, Ayush Vision 2030 and the CCRAS-AGNI web portal.
Scientific sessions also examined Ayurveda’s potential role in future healthcare and public health, including discussions around the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.
The focus on research and evidence is part of the government’s stated approach to connecting traditional knowledge with contemporary healthcare requirements.
A Growing Digital Public Engagement
The scale of participation also reflects the increasing role of digital platforms in public campaigns.
Through the Ayurveda Day website, citizens could register their participation, while institutions and organisations could report activities. The submission of more than 90,000 images provided a visual record of events conducted across different locations.
The digital mechanism also helped bring together participation from communities that may not have been part of the central national programme in Nagpur.
Ayurveda Day’s Expanding Global Footprint
The 2026 celebrations come as the Ministry continues to promote Ayurveda internationally through research partnerships, education and institutional cooperation.
The Ministry has highlighted international collaborations and academic partnerships as part of its efforts to expand Ayurveda’s global outreach. Ayurveda-related initiatives have also received greater international visibility through standardisation and cooperation with global institutions.
The participation of more than 38 countries in Ayurveda Day 2026 adds another dimension to this international outreach.
From One-Day Celebration to Wider Awareness
With more than 22,000 activities, 13.10 lakh registered participants and support from over 1.32 crore citizens, the 11th Ayurveda Day became a large public-awareness exercise spanning communities in India and several countries overseas.
The activities combined awareness, wellness, education, healthy dietary practices and medicinal plant conservation with a growing focus on research and innovation.
The scale of participation also gives the Ministry a larger platform to promote its stated objective of connecting Ayurveda’s traditional knowledge with evidence, scientific research and contemporary public-health needs. The continuing challenge will be to translate this large public engagement into sustained awareness and informed use of Ayurveda as part of India’s wider healthcare and wellness ecosystem.
