Dehradun: Uttarakhand government is working on an ambitious master plan to redevelop the holy Badrinath Dham into a “Spiritual Smart Hill Town”, aiming to offer pilgrims a deeply memorable and modern yet culturally rooted experience.
The detailed presentation of the Badrinath Master Plan was given to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat on Wednesday by tourism department officials.
Aims: A Blend of Faith, Modernity, and Nature
Tourism Secretary Dheeraj Garbyal said the core idea of the plan is simple yet powerful—every pilgrim visiting Badrinath, whether from India or abroad, should return with an unforgettable spiritual experience.
He emphasized that while modern facilities will be developed, the spiritual essence and sanctity of the shrine will remain untouched.
Chief Minister Dhami also directed officials to ensure that cultural values and environmental protection are fully integrated into the project.

Dev Darshani Point to Offer First Divine Glimpse
One of the key highlights of the plan is the development of Dev Darshani Point, designed to provide pilgrims with their first breathtaking view of Badrinath Dham.
The idea is to create a moment so powerful that it becomes one of the most cherished memories of the entire pilgrimage journey.
Badrinarayan Chowk to Become Spiritual Hub
The Badrinarayan Chowk will be developed as a major spiritual and cultural gathering space.
It will include well-designed seating areas, resting zones, and open public spaces where devotees can relax, interact, and experience the spiritual atmosphere of the town.
Art, Culture & Heritage on Display
The plan includes strong focus on local art and culture:
- Walls of the ISBT will feature murals inspired by local folk art and religious themes
- Vasudha Vatika will blend nature, spirituality, and Uttarakhand’s traditional aesthetics
- Landscapes will be designed to be visually appealing and culturally meaningful
These developments aim to bring the region’s heritage alive in a modern setting.
Sacred Symbols of Lord Vishnu to Define the Town
The master plan will prominently feature symbols associated with Lord Vishnu, including:
- Panchajanya Shankh (conch)
- Kaumodaki Gada (mace)
- Sudarshan Chakra
- Vaikunth Dwar (gateway to heaven)
Additionally, artistic representations inspired by the Ramayana and Mahabharata, including Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, will enhance the spiritual identity of the town.
Grand Aarti Experience at Diya Aarti Ghat
The Diya Aarti Ghat will be specially developed to create a divine evening experience for pilgrims.
During the evening aarti, the glowing lamps along the Alaknanda River are expected to create a mesmerizing spiritual atmosphere, making it a major highlight of the pilgrimage.
Modern Infrastructure with Eco-Friendly Planning
The overall development will also include:
- Improved pedestrian pathways
- Modern lighting systems
- Better seating arrangements
- Clear signage for visitors
- Eco-friendly beautification and street design
The goal is to ensure comfort for pilgrims while maintaining environmental balance.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Vision
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the project should represent a perfect harmony of faith, modern infrastructure, and nature.Once completed, Badrinath is expected to emerge as a global spiritual destination that preserves tradition while embracing modern development.
