Patna: Bihar is moving towards hosting one of the biggest events in international women’s hockey, with the state government saying its proposal to host the 2030 FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup has been accepted.
The development came into focus during the ongoing 20th Asian Games in Japan, where hockey is among the major sporting competitions. The proposed World Cup hosting opportunity could bring some of the world’s top women hockey players to Bihar while giving young players in the state a chance to experience international-level hockey more closely.
For Bihar’s emerging women athletes, the significance goes beyond watching elite players compete. The event could create greater exposure to high-level hockey, inspire young players and strengthen the state’s efforts to develop women’s sports.

Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh and Sports Department Secretary Deepak Anand were present during discussions related to the state’s proposal. Bhola Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, was also present.
According to the Sports Minister, the proposal to host the 2030 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup in Bihar has been accepted.
The development comes at a time when Bihar is seeking a larger role in hosting major national and international sporting events. The state has already hosted major hockey competitions, including the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Rajgir 2024, which is recorded in FIH’s official competition database.

The discussions took place alongside India’s hockey campaign at the Asian Games.
The Indian men’s hockey team defeated hosts Japan 2-0 to enter the semi-finals. Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh congratulated the Indian team on the victory and extended her best wishes for the upcoming matches.
The 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 are being held in Japan, with the hockey competitions taking place in Kakamigahara, Gifu. The men’s tournament is scheduled from September 18 to October 3, while the women’s competition runs from September 18 to October 2.
The Asian Games also carry significance for Olympic qualification, with the hockey champions earning a direct qualification pathway for Los Angeles 2028 under the FIH system.
