Patna: Patna is set to get another major elevated road link, with the Mithapur-Mahuli Elevated Corridor expected to be inaugurated by the end of August 2026. The construction of the 2.1-km four-lane elevated road between Mithapur and Sipara, along with a two-way railway overbridge at Sipara, has been completed.
The project is being implemented by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL). BSRDCL’s official project information confirms that the Mithapur-Sipara elevated section forms part of the larger Mithapur-Sipara-Mahuli-Punpun corridor along the eastern side of the railway line.
Inauguration Expected This Month
The Mithapur-Sipara stretch has been completed, and preparations are underway for the inauguration. BSRDCL Chief General Manager Bablu Kumar said, “In a day or two, the secretary of the road construction department would meet Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to seek his time for the inauguration.”

11.67-Km Corridor Connects Key Routes
The overall Mithapur-Sipara-Mahuli-Punpun project spans about 11.67 km and has been developed in phases.
Key components include:
- 2.1-km four-lane elevated road from Mithapur to Sipara.
- Two-way railway overbridge at Sipara.
- 2.2-km four-lane at-grade road from Ram Govind Singh Mahuli Halt to Punpun (Lakshman Jhula).
- Connectivity along the eastern side of the railway line between Mithapur, Sipara, Mahuli and Punpun.
The official BSRDCL project documents identify the Mithapur-Sipara section and the Mahuli-Punpun connection as part of the same 4.3-km Phase-II package.
Project Built in Two Phases
The first phase includes an 8.86-km four-lane elevated stretch between the Mithapur area and Ram Govind Singh Mahuli Halt. The second phase extends the connectivity towards Sipara and Punpun.
The project received attention earlier this year after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) cleared construction of a flyover over the NH-31 near the new bypass, with BSRDCL setting an August 2026 completion target.
Travel Time Expected to Fall
Once the complete corridor becomes operational, officials expect it to reduce travel time between Sipara and Mahuli to around 15 minutes.
The corridor is also intended to provide a faster route towards Punpun and other parts of south Bihar, including routes leading towards Gaya, Jehanabad and Aurangabad.
According to officials, the wider connectivity improvements are expected to reduce pressure on existing city roads by providing an alternative route for traffic moving towards southern and eastern parts of Patna.
Modern Features on Elevated Road
The corridor incorporates several engineering and road-safety features.
These include:
- High guard rails
- Sound barriers
- Street lighting
- Expansion joints
- Road markings
- A fixed speed limit of 60 kmph for cars and two-wheelers
The project also uses Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) for certain structural components. Project documentation identifies a 64-metre-long special span on the corridor.
What the Corridor Will Connect
The Mithapur-Mahuli project is part of Bihar’s broader effort to improve road connectivity around Patna and strengthen links towards south Bihar.
The corridor is expected to provide improved access towards:
- Punpun
- Gaya
- Jehanabad
- Aurangabad
- Other parts of south Bihar
The project is also linked to the broader Patna-Gaya road network, with the corridor designed to provide an alternative movement route and help decongest existing stretches.
Inauguration Awaits Chief Minister’s Schedule
With the Mithapur-Sipara construction now complete, the remaining step is the scheduling of the inauguration. BSRDCL officials are expected to approach Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for a date.
If the inauguration takes place as planned, the completed section will add another major four-lane elevated connection to Patna’s expanding road network.
