The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has appointed full time chiefs for its four regions in the country including Mumbai. These appointments come after the tenure of IRS officer Sameer Wankhede ended a few months back. The Anti-Narcotics Agency has appointed Amit Fakkad Gawate, a 2008 batch Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) officer, as NCB Zonal Director for Mumbai.
The Delhi Zonal Unit will have a Whole Time Regional Director in the form of Gyanendra Kumar Singh. Singh was leading the Chandigarh Zone of NCB till now. The Delhi region has also been without a whole time director for almost two years. Amanjit Singh, a 2010 batch IRS (Customs and Central Excise) officer who joined the agency recently, will head the Chandigarh zone.
2010 batch IPS officer Aravindan P will head the NCB zone in Chennai. He will hold the additional charge of Bengaluru zone. The agency has a total of 13 zones in the country including Patna, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Jammu and Indore.
The post of NCB Zonal Directors is primarily the rank of officers who join the agency on deputation from IRS, IPS and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Vacancies in important posts of Zonal Directors in various cities and deputation of officers in the agency have been created rapidly after the new NCB Director General (DG) SN Pradhan took over in November last year.
