Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has transferred ₹8.01 crore (₹8.2 crore approx.) as incentive assistance to 3,556 seed-producing farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The financial support was released under the mandi fund for the financial year 2024–25.
The distribution took place during a program held in Nava Raipur, where Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam officially credited the amount directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
Farmers Join Program via Video Conference
Several farmers from across the state participated in the event through video conferencing. The minister interacted with them and encouraged the production of high-quality certified seeds.
A book highlighting the one-year achievements of the State Seed Corporation was also released during the program. Senior officials, including Agriculture Production Commissioner Shri Shaila Nigar, were present.
Government Push for Seed Production Self-Reliance
Minister Ramvichar Netam emphasized that the incentive scheme is designed to ensure farmers receive fair value for their hard work.
He stated that Chhattisgarh aims to become self-reliant in seed production, and collective efforts from farmers and the government are essential to achieve this goal.
Shift from Paddy to Pulses, Oilseeds and Millets
The minister urged farmers to reduce dependence on paddy cultivation and adopt crop diversification.
He specifically encouraged farmers to grow:
- Pulses
- Oilseeds
- Millets
- Vegetables
He also advised avoiding paddy cultivation during the summer season due to its high water consumption.
According to him, diversified cropping helps:
- Improve soil fertility
- Reduce water usage
- Increase long-term sustainability
Focus on Quality Seed Production
Ramvichar Netam highlighted that seed quality directly reflects the government’s credibility.
He urged farmers to maintain honesty and high standards in seed production, stating that quality improvement will strengthen both agriculture and the state’s reputation in the sector.
Farmers at the Center of Government Policy
Seed Corporation Chairman Chandrahas Chandrakar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, farmers are receiving timely incentives.
He also noted that the government is supporting farmers by procuring paddy at ₹3100 per quintal, strengthening their income and confidence.
Farmers Share Feedback and Concerns
During the program, the minister interacted with farmers from Kawardha, Ambikapur, and Raipur, listening to their concerns and feedback.
Farmers expressed gratitude to CM Vishnu Deo Sai, Minister Ramvichar Netam, and officials for the timely DBT transfer and support for seed production activities.
Push Toward Sustainable and Diversified Farming
The DBT incentive initiative reflects Chhattisgarh’s broader strategy to strengthen farmers’ income, promote sustainable agriculture, and reduce over-dependence on water-intensive crops like paddy, while encouraging a shift toward pulses, oilseeds, and millets.
