Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has issued an official order providing insurance coverage of up to ₹2 crore for employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM). The decision will benefit more than 18,000 contractual and daily wage health workers across the state, strengthening their financial and social security.
The announcement was earlier made by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai during the NHM Employees’ State Conference held in Raipur, and has now been formally implemented.
MoU signed with Bank of India for insurance benefits
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Bank of India to implement the insurance scheme. Under this agreement, NHM employees will receive multiple financial protection benefits, including accident insurance, disability cover, and life insurance support.
To avail the benefits, employees must maintain their salary account with Bank of India. The scheme will become active after the first salary credit under the new arrangement.
Insurance benefits announced for NHM employees
The scheme includes comprehensive coverage for employees and their families:
- ₹1.40 crore for personal accident death cover
- ₹1.40 crore for permanent total disability
- ₹70 lakh for permanent partial disability
- Up to ₹2 crore cover in case of air accident death
- ₹6 lakh group term insurance for natural death
- Child education assistance: ₹5 lakh per child (up to ₹10 lakh for two children)
- Health insurance available at concessional rates
Over 18,000 frontline health workers to benefit
More than 18,000 NHM employees are currently working across Chhattisgarh, including:
- Community Health Officers (CHOs)
- ANM and GNM staff
- Rural health coordinators
- Lab technicians
- Data entry operators
- Administrative and support staff
These workers form the backbone of healthcare services in both rural and urban regions, especially in remote and tribal areas of the state.

The insurance plan is seen as a major step toward improving job security and welfare for contractual health workers. It aims to ensure financial stability for employees working in high-risk and frontline healthcare roles.
Employee representatives have welcomed the decision, calling it a historic move that will provide long-term security to thousands of families.

Representatives of the Chhattisgarh NHM Employees’ Union said the MoU with Bank of India was achieved after sustained efforts. They expressed gratitude to the state leadership for implementing the insurance coverage, stating that it will significantly improve employee welfare and morale.
