The Ministry of Coal will organise a major roadshow in New Delhi on May 28, 2026, to promote Surface Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects under its ambitious ₹37,500 crore scheme aimed at accelerating cleaner coal utilisation in India.
The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in transforming the country’s coal ecosystem by encouraging the conversion of coal and lignite into value-added and cleaner energy products.

Union Ministers to Attend High-Level Industry Event
The event will be attended by Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, in Delhi.
Senior officials including Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt, Additional Secretary Sanoj Kumar Jha and other top government representatives will also participate in the programme.
The roadshow is expected to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, financial institutions, technology providers and state government officials to discuss investment opportunities and future strategies in coal gasification.
India Targets Gasification of 100 Million Tonnes of Coal by 2030
The Ministry said the scheme is a key step towards achieving India’s target of gasifying 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030.
Officials believe the initiative will significantly strengthen India’s energy security while reducing dependence on imports of critical commodities such as LNG, ammonia, urea and methanol.
Coal gasification enables domestic coal and lignite to be converted into products like syngas, methanol, synthetic natural gas, cleaner fuels and chemical feedstock, opening new possibilities for industrial growth and cleaner energy production.
₹3 Lakh Crore Investments and 50,000 Jobs Expected
According to the Ministry, the scheme is expected to mobilise investments worth nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore to ₹3 lakh crore across approximately 25 projects in coal-bearing regions.
The initiative is also projected to generate around 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Additionally, the utilisation of 75 million tonnes of coal and lignite under the scheme is expected to generate nearly ₹6,300 crore in annual revenue, apart from additional earnings through GST and other levies.
Expanding India’s Coal Gasification Mission
The latest initiative builds upon the National Coal Gasification Mission launched in 2021 and the ₹8,500 crore coal gasification schemes approved in January 2024.
Under the earlier schemes, eight projects with incentives worth ₹6,233 crore are already under implementation.
The Ministry said the upcoming roadshow reflects the government’s continued push towards cleaner coal technologies, energy self-reliance and the broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
