Thiruvananthapuram: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has been allotted 18 acres of land in Kochi for setting up a new ship-block construction facility with a proposed investment of ₹5,000 crore.
The project is expected to create around 2,000 new jobs and strengthen Kochi’s position as a major shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing hub.
The proposal has received approval from the Kerala Government, clearing the way for the Central Public Sector Enterprise to proceed with the planned facility.

The proposed ship-block construction facility will add to CSL’s existing infrastructure and help the company expand its shipbuilding capacity.
The project is expected to support growing demand from both domestic and export markets and create additional opportunities across Kerala’s maritime manufacturing ecosystem.

Kerala Approves Land Lease for Cochin Shipyard
The land will be provided to Cochin Shipyard on a lease basis.
Under the proposed terms, the state government is expected to receive an annual lease amount of ₹1.45 crore, which works out to approximately ₹1.70 crore including GST.
The proposal had been under consideration for some time and has now received government approval, enabling CSL to move forward with the ship-block building facility.
Project to Strengthen Kochi’s Shipbuilding Ecosystem
The new facility is expected to give a significant boost to Kochi’s established shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing ecosystem.
The project could also create opportunities for several ancillary industries connected with shipbuilding, including suppliers, engineering firms, logistics companies and other maritime services.
