New Delhi: India-Singapore maritime surveillance cooperation received a major boost as the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy held a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) on Maritime Patrol Aircraft Operations. The discussions focused on improving maritime surveillance capabilities, operational procedures, training, and best practices. The programme took place during the visit of the Indian Navy’s P-8I Poseidon aircraft to Paya Lebar Air Base in Singapore, according to official statements.

The High Commission of India in Singapore said the exchange reflected the strong and long-standing defence partnership between India and Singapore. Officials highlighted that sharing operational knowledge and surveillance practices will help both navies improve coordination and strengthen maritime security in the region.
Recent Defence Engagements Between India and Singapore
The latest naval exchange follows several high-level defence meetings between the two countries. Recently, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, met India’s Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani. Both sides discussed expanding military cooperation through joint exercises, exchanges, and regular defence dialogues.
Last month, India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary (Defence) Joseph Leong co-chaired the 16th India-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue in Singapore.
The meeting reviewed ongoing defence cooperation in military engagements, defence industry collaboration, capacity building, and regional security. Both countries also explored new opportunities to strengthen strategic ties and increase cooperation between their defence industries.
