New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced a major initiative to modernise 611 Anganwadi centres across the capital, aiming to improve infrastructure, space utilisation, and child-care facilities through architect-led redesigns.
The project is expected to serve as a model for upgrading all 10,897 Anganwadi centres in Delhi in the coming phase.
Architect-Led Modern Design for Better Facilities
The redesigned centres will be developed with the help of professional architects to ensure efficient use of limited space and improved service delivery.
Key planned features include:
- Separate spaces for children’s learning and activities
- Dedicated areas for care and early education
- Better organised and child-friendly infrastructure
- Optimised layouts for small and crowded urban spaces
Focus on Quality Child Care and Community Services
According to Dr. Rashmi Singh, Anganwadi centres are vital hubs for community welfare, child nutrition, and early education.
She highlighted that many centres currently operate in:
- Small rented spaces
- Overcrowded urban locations
- Buildings not suitable for quality service delivery
Frequent relocation of centres has also affected service continuity, she added.
Pilot Model for Statewide Anganwadi Transformation
The 611 upgraded centres will serve as a pilot model for future expansion. Based on their success, the design and infrastructure framework will be replicated across all Anganwadi centres in Delhi.
The government aims to ensure uniform, modern, and efficient service delivery across the entire network.
Workshop Held to Improve Anganwadi Infrastructure
A workshop was held at the Delhi Secretariat where Dr. Rashmi Singh and other officials discussed improvement strategies for Anganwadi centres.
The session included:
- Inputs from NGOs working in child development
- Suggestions from Anganwadi stakeholders
- Discussions on infrastructure challenges and solutions
Government Focus on Women and Child Welfare
The Women and Child Development Department emphasised that the goal is to ensure better nutrition, learning, and care for children and mothers through upgraded facilities.
Officials said the initiative will strengthen early childhood care and education services in the capital.
Step Towards Modern Early Childhood Infrastructure
The modernization of Anganwadi centres marks a significant step toward building a more efficient, child-friendly, and sustainable early education system in Delhi. The initiative is expected to improve service quality and create a strong foundation for large-scale infrastructure reform in the sector.
