Delhi: In a major humanitarian initiative, rescue ambulances and vans of Apna Ghar Ashram were flagged off from the Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan to support homeless and destitute people across Delhi.
These specially equipped vehicles will operate across the city to rescue individuals living on streets, footpaths, and public spaces and transport them safely to rehabilitation centres.
Focus on Treatment, Care, and Rehabilitation
The rescued individuals will receive comprehensive support at shelters run by Apna Ghar Ashram, including:
- Medical treatment and emergency care
- Mental health support and counselling
- Food, shelter, and basic necessities
- Long-term rehabilitation and family reunification
Officials stated that the mission ensures no person in Delhi remains unattended or deprived of treatment.
24×7 Rescue Operation Across Delhi
The rescue system will function as a round-the-clock operation across all districts of the capital.
Key features include:
- Continuous patrolling in sensitive and crowded areas
- Immediate first aid support in rescue vans
- Rapid response to distress calls via helpline
- Transport of needy individuals to safe shelters
Around 19 vehicles have been deployed under the initial phase of the campaign.
Government–NGO Collaboration for Social Welfare
The initiative is being jointly implemented by the Delhi Social Welfare Department, Apna Ghar Ashram, and Seva Bharti Delhi Prant.
Officials confirmed that the five-day drive (May 11–15) will cover all 13 districts of Delhi, with over 300 people expected to benefit in the initial phase.
CM Highlights Humanity and Social Responsibility
The Chief Minister praised the initiative and said ensuring dignity and care for every human being is a shared responsibility of both the government and society.
He stated that the campaign reflects the philosophy of “Nar Seva is Narayan Seva,” where serving humans is equivalent to serving God.
Public Participation Encouraged
Citizens have been urged to actively support the initiative by reporting homeless or injured individuals to the rescue teams or helpline numbers so that timely assistance can be provided.
The government also plans to scale up the number of rescue vans after evaluating the first phase of the drive.
Parallel Welfare Initiative for Youth
Alongside this mission, the government has also launched an “Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons” aimed at supporting orphaned youth above 18 years.
The scheme provides:
- Skill development training
- Education support
- Monthly financial assistance
- Employment opportunities
This initiative aims to help young adults transition into independent and stable lives after leaving childcare institutions.
The rescue van initiative led in collaboration with Apna Ghar Ashram marks a significant step toward strengthening social welfare in Delhi by ensuring dignity, safety, and rehabilitation for homeless and vulnerable populations across the capital.
