New Delhi: In a major step towards reducing pollution and increasing green cover, the Delhi Government has launched an Oxygen Park initiative across the national capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, laid the foundation stone for 10 new Oxygen Parks aimed at improving air quality, promoting biodiversity, and providing a cleaner environment for residents.
The government said the initiative will focus on developing eco-friendly green spaces with native tree species to strengthen Delhi’s environmental protection efforts.
Delhi Plans 100 Oxygen Parks Across the Capital
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi Government is working on a plan to develop 100 Oxygen Parks across the city.
Out of these, construction work on 18 parks has already started, while the foundation stone for 10 additional parks has now been laid.
The Chief Minister said the decision to create Oxygen Parks was inspired after studying the successful Oxygen Park model developed in Gujarat.
The objective is to increase green spaces, improve air quality, and provide citizens with healthier surroundings.

2026-27 Budget Focuses on Green Development
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that the Delhi Government has presented the 2026-27 financial year budget as a “Green Budget”.
According to the government, around 22% of the total budget allocation has been dedicated to initiatives related to:
- Environmental protection
- Green development
- Pollution control measures
- Sustainable urban growth
The government aims to enhance Delhi’s green cover and create long-term solutions for environmental challenges.
Native Tree Species to Be Planted in Oxygen Parks
The Delhi Government said Oxygen Parks will be different from regular parks as they will focus on planting environment-friendly indigenous tree species.
Major species planned for plantation include:
- Peepal
- Banyan
- Jamun
- Mango
These native trees are considered important for maintaining ecological balance, improving air quality, supporting biodiversity, and strengthening the urban environment.
Technology-Based Monitoring of Plantation Drive
To ensure proper maintenance and survival of plants, the government has introduced a monitoring system for the plantation campaign.
Under this initiative:
- Every planted tree will be tagged
- Plantation details will be monitored online
- Regular tracking will be carried out to ensure proper care and protection
The government will also provide financial assistance to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and other organizations to support park development and plantation activities.
Oxygen Parks to Help Reduce Pollution and Improve Air Quality
The Delhi Government believes that the development of Oxygen Parks will play an important role in controlling pollution levels and improving the city’s environment.
The initiative is expected to:

The government said community participation will be essential for ensuring the success of the Oxygen Park initiative and maintaining Delhi’s green spaces in the long term.
