Gandhinagar: In a significant step aimed at positioning Gujarat as a global hub for tourism and spiritual heritage, the state government has approved a new development plan to upgrade major pilgrimage sites across the state.
The initiative, approved by Minister of State for Home (Independent Charge) and Yatradham Vikas Minister Harsh Sanghavi, focuses on improving infrastructure and enhancing facilities for millions of devotees visiting these sacred destinations.
Six Districts Covered Under the Development Plan
The approved plan covers key pilgrimage locations across six major districts of Gujarat, spanning different regions of the state:
- South Gujarat: Valsad, Surat, Dang
- Central Gujarat: Ahmedabad, Vadodara
- Saurashtra region: Rajkot and surrounding spiritual centers
These locations have been selected based on high footfall of pilgrims and local infrastructure requirements. The government aims to ensure systematic and balanced development across all these regions.
₹3.28 Crore Allocated for Temple and Pilgrimage Site Upgradation
Under the tourism and Yatradham Development Board, a total budget of ₹3.28 crore has been sanctioned for this initiative.
The allocated funds will be used for:
- Safe drinking water facilities
- Public utility infrastructure
- Modern sanitation facilities
- Beautification of temple premises
- Approach road improvements
- Rest houses for devotees
- Installation of CCTV security systems
The project aims to modernize pilgrimage sites while preserving their cultural and spiritual significance.
Focus on Safety, Comfort, and Modern Facilities
A key highlight of the initiative is the emphasis on visitor safety and comfort. The installation of CCTV surveillance systems and improved infrastructure will ensure a secure environment for pilgrims.
Officials have been instructed to complete all works within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high-quality standards.
Boost to Religious Tourism and Local Economy
The government believes that upgraded infrastructure will significantly boost religious tourism in Gujarat. Improved facilities are expected to:
- Increase the number of pilgrims and tourists
- Enhance visitor experience at temple sites
