The Government of India has extended the central deputation tenure of 1999-batch IAS officer Bhawna Garg. Serving as the Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Regional Office in Chandigarh, her tenure has been once again extended for one year beyond May 14, 2024, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
Earlier, in June of last year, her central deputation tenure as DDG at UIDAI was also extended for a period of one year.
Ms. Garg, who is from the Punjab cadre, has been serving in this key position at the UIDAI under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in overseeing significant advancements in Aadhaar-related services and improving the technological framework that supports these services in the northern region of India.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday (02.06.2023), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology to extend the deputation tenure of Ms. Garg for a period of one year beyond 14.05.2023 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The decision to extend her tenure was made after a thorough review of her contributions to the UIDAI and her experience in public administration. This extension is expected to provide continuity at a critical time when the UIDAI is implementing several new initiatives to enhance service delivery and security measures associated with Aadhaar.
