Vidisha: The Madhya Pradesh administrative establishment was left shocked on Tuesday, September 8, following the sudden death of 2019-batch IAS officer Anil Kumar Damor, who passed away at the age of 45 after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest in Vidisha.

Damor, who had served as the Additional District Magistrate (ADM)/Additional Collector of Vidisha, reportedly collapsed in the bathroom of his official government residence in the early hours of Tuesday.

He was immediately rushed to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Vidisha, where doctors attempted to revive him. However, the medical team could not restore his heartbeat and he was subsequently declared dead.

The sudden demise of the officer has triggered an outpouring of grief among administrative officials and colleagues in Vidisha and Madhya Pradesh.

Officer Collapsed at Government Residence

According to the information available, Damor had stayed overnight at his official residence in Vidisha after recently being transferred to a new assignment in Bhopal.

On Tuesday morning, while preparing to shift his belongings from the government bungalow, he suddenly felt unwell and collapsed in the bathroom.

He was rushed to the medical college at around 8:25 AM, with his condition reported to be extremely critical.

Shubham Jain, medical in-charge at the hospital, said that when Damor was brought to the facility, he had no detectable heartbeat or pulse. The medical team immediately administered CPR and attempted resuscitation, but the efforts were unsuccessful.

He was later declared dead.

A post-mortem examination was also being conducted at the medical college, with the hospital administration confirming that the procedure was underway.

Recently Transferred to Bhopal

The death came shortly after Damor was transferred from Vidisha to Bhopal.

In a transfer order issued in late August 2026, the Madhya Pradesh government appointed him as Deputy Secretary in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department in Bhopal.

He had been serving as Additional Collector/ADM, Vidisha, a position he held for more than two years.

Reports indicate that he had completed joining-related formalities for his new assignment and subsequently returned to his official residence in Vidisha to organise his belongings before moving to Bhopal.

The circumstances have made his sudden death particularly shocking for colleagues who had expected him to begin his new administrative responsibilities in the state capital.

More Than Two Years as Vidisha ADM

Damor had one of the longest documented tenures of his career in Vidisha, where he served for over two years and seven months as Additional Collector/ADM.

During his tenure, he was associated with the district administration and also had experience in judicial responsibilities.

Colleagues reportedly remembered him as a humble, approachable and cheerful officer, known for maintaining cordial relations with both subordinate staff and members of the public.

He was also regarded as an efficient administrator and had earned appreciation for his work as a judicial officer during his earlier postings.

From State Civil Service to IAS

Anil Kumar Damor’s journey into the IAS came through the State Civil Service route.

He originally served in the Madhya Pradesh State Civil Service before being promoted and inducted into the Indian Administrative Service as part of the 2019 IAS batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre.

His career included administrative and judicial responsibilities, eventually leading to his posting as Additional Collector/ADM in Vidisha.

His transition from state service to the IAS marked an important stage in a career that had seen him take on significant responsibilities in district administration.

Hailed for His Approachable Nature

Beyond his official responsibilities, Damor was remembered by colleagues for his personal manner of dealing with people.

Reports from colleagues and those familiar with his work describe him as an officer who was informal, approachable and helpful, rather than distant or rigid in his interactions.

His sudden death at the age of 45 has therefore come as a shock to officials who had worked with him during his Vidisha tenure.

Officials and employees from the district administration and various departments began arriving at the medical college after learning of his death.

The atmosphere at the hospital remained sombre as colleagues and administrative staff gathered to pay their respects.

Family Left Behind

Damor is survived by his wife and two school-going children.

According to the information available, his children include a daughter and a son who is currently studying in Class 11.

The officer originally hailed from Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.

His sudden demise has left his family, colleagues and the wider administrative community mourning the loss of an officer who was still in the middle of his career.

Sudden Death Shocks MP Administration

Damor’s death comes at a relatively young age for a serving IAS officer and shortly after his transfer to a new assignment in Bhopal.

The circumstances surrounding his sudden collapse and the unsuccessful resuscitation efforts have left colleagues deeply shocked.

While initial reports have attributed the death to a cardiac arrest, the hospital was conducting the post-mortem examination following his death. The final medical findings will provide further clarity on the cause of death.

For the Madhya Pradesh administration, Damor’s passing represents the sudden loss of a serving officer who had built a reputation for his administrative experience, approachable nature and long association with Vidisha.
