New Delhi: India’s leading cooperative fertilizer organization, the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited, has launched a large-scale nationwide awareness campaign to promote nano fertilizers and reduce dependence on conventional chemical fertilizers. The initiative aims to encourage sustainable farming practices, improve soil health, and reduce agricultural input costs for farmers across the country.

The campaign was formally highlighted by IFFCO Chairman Dilip Sanghani, who urged farmers to adopt modern agricultural technologies for a more sustainable future.

“Earth is Our Mother”: Appeal for Sustainable Farming

IFFCO Chairman Dilip Sanghani made an emotional appeal to farmers, describing the Earth as “Mother Earth” and emphasizing that protecting it is a moral responsibility of every farmer.

He urged farmers to reduce the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, especially urea, and instead adopt environmentally friendly alternatives. His message focused on balancing agricultural productivity with ecological responsibility.

Sanghani’s appeal aligns with the broader national vision of the Government of India under the initiative of “Cooperative Movement for Prosperity” and guidance from senior leadership in the cooperative and agriculture sectors.

Push for Nano Fertilizers to Reduce Chemical Dependency

A major focus of the campaign is to reduce dependence on traditional fertilizers and promote the use of nano fertilizers such as nano urea and nano DAP.

According to IFFCO, excessive use of conventional fertilizers has led to declining soil health and increased production costs. Nano fertilizers, on the other hand, offer higher efficiency in smaller quantities, making them a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution.

For example, nano urea provides similar nutrient efficiency in a 500 ml bottle as compared to much larger quantities of conventional urea, significantly reducing overall fertilizer consumption.

Nationwide Awareness Drive Across 19 States

The “Nano Fertilizer Awareness Campaign” is being implemented on a massive scale across India. The initiative covers:

  • 19 states and union territories
  • 560 districts
  • 3,477 tehsils

Under this campaign, farmers will be educated about the proper use, dosage, and benefits of nano fertilizers such as nano urea and nano DAP. Special emphasis will be placed on spray-based application methods for improved efficiency.

IFFCO aims to bridge the knowledge gap among farmers and address misconceptions surrounding nano fertilizers through direct engagement and field-level demonstrations.

Promoting Self-Reliant and Sustainable Agriculture

The initiative is aligned with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and the broader goal of cooperative-driven prosperity.

IFFCO believes that adopting nano fertilizers can significantly reduce India’s dependence on imported fertilizers while improving agricultural productivity. The organization also highlights that reduced fertilizer consumption can lower logistics costs, energy usage, and overall import burden.

Strong Adoption of Nano Urea and Nano DAP

IFFCO data shows strong adoption trends for nano fertilizers:

  • Over 218 lakh bottles of nano urea have been sold
  • More than 64 lakh bottles of nano DAP have been distributed

These quantities are equivalent to millions of tonnes of conventional fertilizers, indicating a major shift toward modern agricultural inputs.

Addressing Awareness Gaps Among Farmers

Despite growing adoption, IFFCO acknowledges that many farmers are still unaware of the correct usage methods and benefits of nano fertilizers.

To address this, the campaign includes:

  • Mobile awareness vans
  • Field demonstrations
  • Multimedia outreach programs
  • Direct farmer training sessions

The goal is to encourage behavioral change by allowing farmers to see real-world results before switching to new technology.

Toward Low-Cost, High-Yield Sustainable Agriculture

Through its large-scale awareness campaign, IFFCO aims to transform Indian agriculture by promoting low-cost, high-efficiency, and environmentally sustainable farming practices.

By encouraging the adoption of nano fertilizers, the cooperative hopes to improve soil health, reduce chemical dependency, and strengthen long-term agricultural productivity.
