Hyderabad: In a significant administrative move, the Telangana government has appointed senior IPS officer C.V. Anand (IPS: 1991: TG) as the new Director General of Police (DGP). He will succeed the incumbent B. Shivdhar Reddy (IPS: 1994: TG), who is scheduled to retire on April 30 upon attaining superannuation.
The appointment, finalised on April 28, comes in line with the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in the landmark Prakash Singh case and follows recommendations made by the empanelment committee in accordance with Union Public Service Commission norms.
Currently serving as Special Chief Secretary (Home), Anand has been transferred and posted as DGP and will assume charge in the first week of May.
Smooth Transition Planned as Shivdhar Reddy Nears Retirement
Outgoing DGP B. Shivdhar Reddy, who had a relatively short tenure, is expected to be appointed as Advisor to the Chief Minister after his retirement.
The state government’s decision ensures continuity in leadership at the top level of Telangana Police, with Anand bringing over three decades of rich policing and administrative experience.
