New Delhi/Lucknow: In a significant administrative development, IPS officer Ravi Shankar Chhabi has been repatriated to his parent cadre in Uttar Pradesh from the Central Reserve Police Force, where he was serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
The move follows an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday, directing him to be relieved from his central deputation and report back to his state cadre.
Repatriation After Recent CRPF Posting
Ravi Shankar Chhabi, a 2007-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, had joined the CRPF as DIG on February 6, 2026. His deputation to the central force had been approved earlier through an MHA order dated January 19, 2026, following which the Uttar Pradesh government relieved him to take up the assignment.
During his brief tenure in the CRPF, he was also deployed as an observer during the West Bengal elections, a role involving oversight of security arrangements and electoral processes.
While the official reason for his sudden repatriation has not been disclosed, there is speculation that the decision may be linked to a report submitted by the Election Commission of India.

Following the latest MHA directive, Chhabi has now been asked to report back to his parent cadre in Uttar Pradesh. Prior to his central deputation, he was serving at the Director General of Police (DGP) Headquarters in Lucknow as DIG (Public Grievances).
He had been appointed to this role in June 2023, where he handled key responsibilities including:
