New Delhi: India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Tourism, has announced the appointment of Vandana Jain as a Government Nominee Director on its Board. The appointment is effective from Friday, as per the company’s disclosure to stock exchanges.

The decision follows a communication from the Ministry of Tourism dated April 28, 2026.

Senior Bureaucrat with Wide Administrative Experience

Vandana Jain is currently serving as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor (AS&FA) in the Ministry of Tourism. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics with specialization in International Trade.

Over the years, she has held senior positions across several ministries, including:

  • Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
  • Ministry of Power
  • Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
  • Ministry of Defence

Replacement After Completion of Previous Tenure

Jain’s appointment comes after the cessation of Ranjana Chopra, who completed her tenure as Senior Financial and Strategic Advisor in the Ministry of Tourism.

The company also noted that formalities for Jain’s appointment are still in progress, including submission of a Director Identification Number (DIN) and other required disclosures.

Regulatory Compliance and Disclosure Requirements

Before the appointment is fully finalized, Jain is required to:

  • Submit necessary regulatory disclosures
  • Confirm she is not debarred by SEBI or other authorities
  • Provide a brief professional profile

These steps are part of standard corporate governance compliance for board appointments.

Significance for ITDC Governance

As a government-controlled PSU, ITDC often sees board-level changes aligned with policy direction from the Ministry of Tourism. Such appointments are important as they can influence:

  • Strategic decision-making
  • Corporate governance structure
  • Policy alignment with government objectives

Investors and stakeholders closely monitor these changes for signals on future direction.

Strong Government Ownership in ITDC

As of March 31, 2024:

  • Government of India holds 87.03% stake in ITDC
  • Indian Hotels Company Ltd holds 7.87% stake

This high government ownership reinforces ITDC’s role as a key public sector entity in India’s tourism ecosystem.
