Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has announced a series of major reforms to strengthen the state’s higher and technical education system. The initiatives focus on filling university vacancies, introducing live online classes, improving student facilities, upgrading technical institutions, and expanding access to education.
During a high-level review meeting of the Higher and Technical Education Department at Project Building, Ranchi, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a roadmap to transform Jharkhand from a mining-based identity to a knowledge and skill-driven economy.
The meeting was attended by Higher and Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar and senior officials of the department.
Jharkhand to Strengthen Universities Through Recruitment and Digital Education
Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed officials to fill vacant positions in universities by approving necessary posts to improve academic quality and administration.
He also instructed authorities to make the Jharkhand University Service Commission fully functional within 15 days to speed up the recruitment process for teaching and non-teaching positions.
The Chief Minister further directed officials to prepare a special action plan for introducing live online classes in state universities from the academic year 2026-27.
Under the pilot project, live online education will initially begin at:
- Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University.
- BBMK University, Dhanbad.
The initiative aims to provide students with access to quality education through digital platforms.
Student Hostels to Be Developed Through PPP Model
CM Hemant Soren reviewed the condition of student hostels across the state and directed officials to assess their current status.
He suggested taking steps to operate hostels through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to improve infrastructure, management, and student facilities.
The move aims to provide better accommodation facilities for students pursuing higher and technical education in Jharkhand.
Coaching Regulatory Authority to Become Operational Soon
The Chief Minister instructed officials to make the Coaching Regulatory Authority fully operational within 15 days.
The authority will help regulate coaching institutes and ensure better standards, transparency, and student welfare in the coaching sector.
BIT Sindri to Be Upgraded as Unitary University
In a major decision for technical education, Hemant Soren gave approval for upgrading BIT Sindri into a unitary university.
A bill will be introduced to provide university status to the prestigious technical institute.
Officials also informed that a Robotics Festival will be introduced in Jharkhand for students of higher and technical education institutions to encourage innovation and emerging technologies.
Jharkhand Plans Technical Education Clusters in Nine Districts
The state government has proposed developing technical education clusters in nine districts to strengthen engineering and skill-based education.
The proposed districts include:
- Palamu
- Giridih
- Ramgarh
- Gumla
- Ranchi
- Jamshedpur
- Bokaro
- Godda
- Sahibganj
The Chief Minister directed officials to quickly implement the plan and develop these clusters as centres for advanced technical learning.
Polytechnic Colleges to Become Jharkhand Institutes of Technology
CM Hemant Soren directed that government polytechnic colleges should be developed as Jharkhand Institutes of Technology (JIT).
He also instructed that engineering colleges across the state should be upgraded on the lines of BIT Sindri.
The government plans to introduce courses related to emerging and future technologies, including:
- Emerging Technologies.
- Textile Design and Manufacturing.
- Logistics and Shipping.
- Electric Vehicles.
- Semiconductor Manufacturing.
The Chief Minister also directed the establishment of a Council for Institutes of Eminence for the effective operation and development of BIT and JIT institutions.
Focus on Expanding Benefits of Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme
Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed officials to ensure that maximum eligible students benefit from the Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme.
He asked departments to coordinate with the Welfare Department to provide education loans to more students so that financial limitations do not prevent anyone from pursuing higher education.
A special action plan will also be prepared to extend the benefits of the scheme to candidates enrolling at the Dumka Flying Institute.
Jharkhand’s Vision for Knowledge-Based Growth
The latest education reforms reflect Jharkhand’s focus on developing a skilled workforce and creating a strong ecosystem for higher learning, innovation, and technology.
Through university reforms, digital education, technical clusters, and upgraded institutions, the state government aims to prepare students for future industries and move towards a knowledge-based economy.
