In a serious development raising concerns over internal functioning within the police force, a Superintendent of Police (SP)-rank officer in Karnataka has alleged harassment and misuse of power by certain IPS officers. The officer has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), seeking permission to present evidence and expose the alleged misconduct. The issue has prompted the state government to order a detailed probe into the matter.
SP Flags Harassment, Seeks Top-Level Intervention
The complainant, currently posted as SP in the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE), has alleged in his letter that some IPS officers in Karnataka have been misusing their authority to harass subordinate officials.
In a significant claim, the SP stated that a few IPS officers from outside the state were allegedly targeting Kannada-origin officers and using their positions to suppress them. The allegations point toward possible bias and internal discord within the department.

The officer has requested the DGP to facilitate a meeting with the Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Home Secretary so that he can present detailed evidence related to harassment, abuse of power, and injustice within the police system.
Inspector Srinivas Levels Parallel Allegations
In a related development, an inspector of the West DCRE police station, identified as Srinivas, has also come forward with similar allegations.
Srinivas released a video in which he accused senior officers—including an SP and a Deputy SP—of harassment and subjecting him to mental pressure. In the video message, he appealed directly to the state government to intervene and take corrective action.
These parallel allegations from officers within the same department have intensified concerns about the internal environment in the police force.
Home Minister Orders Probe
Taking cognisance of the issue, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that he has directed the DGP to submit a detailed report on the allegations.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on April 21, he said the government had noted media reports regarding both the SP’s letter and the video released by Inspector Srinivas.
The Minister confirmed that the probe would examine the allegations thoroughly and determine the facts of the case.
Allegations of Bias and Misuse of Authority
The core of the SP’s complaint revolves around alleged misuse of power by senior IPS officers and claims of bias against officers of Kannada origin.
If substantiated, these allegations could raise serious questions about administrative fairness, internal accountability, and the treatment of officers within the police hierarchy.
No Official Response Yet from Accused Officers
As of now, there has been no official response from the officers against whom the allegations have been made. The absence of a formal statement has added to the uncertainty surrounding the issue.
Ensure Accountability
The allegations by an SP-level officer and a DCRE inspector have brought the spotlight onto internal challenges within the Karnataka Police. With the state government ordering a probe, the coming days are expected to be crucial in determining the credibility of the claims and ensuring accountability within the system.
