The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has recorded its highest-ever annual sales, with Khadi and Village Industry products crossing the Rs 1.87 lakh crore mark in the financial year 2025-26.
Releasing the provisional data, KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives such as ‘Vocal for Local’, ‘Local to Global’, and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ for transforming Khadi into a symbol of self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and rural prosperity.

Sales Jump 501%, Production Rises 380% in 12 Years
According to KVIC data:
- Sales increased from Rs 31,154 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,87,105 crore in 2025-26 — a massive 501% growth.
- Production rose from Rs 26,109 crore to Rs 1,25,296 crore during the same period, registering 380% growth.
- Employment generation increased by 56%, with over 2.04 crore people now employed in the Khadi and Village Industries sector.
The figures mark the strongest performance recorded by the sector so far.
Khadi Textiles See Explosive Growth
The Khadi textiles segment also witnessed remarkable expansion:
- Production rose from Rs 811 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 3,974 crore in 2025-26.
- Sales surged from Rs 1,081 crore to Rs 7,869 crore, recording nearly 628% growth.
KVIC said the rising popularity of Khadi reflects increasing consumer preference for indigenous and sustainable products.
Village Industries Become Rural Employment Engine
The village industries sector emerged as a major contributor to rural employment and entrepreneurship.
Production in village industries increased from Rs 25,298 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,21,322 crore in 2025-26, while sales climbed to Rs 1,79,236 crore.
Employment in the sector expanded from 1.19 crore people to nearly 1.99 crore during the same period.
PMEGP Creates Over 7.3 Lakh Jobs in One Year
Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP):
- 66,494 new units were established in 2025-26.
- Rs 2,457 crore margin money subsidy was disbursed.
- Loans worth Rs 7,375 crore were sanctioned.
- Employment opportunities were created for over 7.31 lakh people.
Since the scheme began, nearly 97.95 lakh people have received employment support through more than 10.84 lakh units.
Women and Artisans Drive KVIC Growth Story
KVIC highlighted strong participation of women entrepreneurs and artisans in the sector’s expansion.
During 2025-26:
- 47,382 women received skill training under KVIC programmes.
- 28,180 women entrepreneurs established business units under PMEGP.
- More than 3 lakh employment opportunities were generated for women.
The commission also noted that nearly 80% of artisans in the Khadi sector are women.
Artisan Wages Rise by 275%
KVIC said artisan remuneration has significantly improved over the past decade.
The payment rate increased from Rs 4 per hank in 2013-14 to Rs 15 per hank in 2025-26, marking a 275% rise in earnings for artisans.
Toolkits and Machinery Distributed to Boost Rural Livelihoods
Under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana, KVIC distributed thousands of machines and toolkits, including:
- Electric pottery wheels
- Bee boxes and colonies
- Agarbatti-making machines
- Footwear toolkits
- Tailoring and mobile repair kits
- Woodcraft and toy-making machines
A total of 3.23 lakh machines and toolkits have been distributed so far under the scheme.
National Flag Sales Also Witness Sharp Rise
KVIC also reported increased demand for Khadi national flags under campaigns like ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’.
Sales of national flags rose from Rs 0.87 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 2.35 crore in 2025-26.
