Indore: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has approved a series of infrastructure and civic development initiatives aimed at improving connectivity, public amenities, waste management and commercial spaces in the Madhya Pradesh city.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Mayor-in-Council (MIC) chaired by Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava on August 18. The approved proposals include a link road between Kanadia Road and Khajrana Temple, PPP-based development of an international swimming pool and a smart hub beneath the Footi Kothi flyover.

The civic body approved steps for developing a direct link road connecting Kanadia Road with Khajrana Temple.

The proposed road is expected to provide an alternative route for commuters travelling towards the temple and surrounding areas. Earlier reports indicated that the planned road is around 1.5 km long and 60 feet wide, with the project intended to reduce the load on existing routes.
Key points:
- Direct connectivity between Kanadia Road and Khajrana Temple
- Intended to provide an alternative route for commuters
- Expected to ease traffic movement in the surrounding areas
- The project had faced delays related to land and alignment issues, according to local reports.

PPP Model for Swimming Pool and Smart Hub
The MIC also approved a proposal to develop and operate an international swimming pool at Brahmaleen Shri Laxmansingh Gaur Udyan on Ranjit Hanuman Marg under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Another PPP-based project involves developing a smart hub on vacant land beneath the Footi Kothi flyover. Its operation and maintenance are also proposed to be handled through the PPP model.
New Markets and Street Food Hub Planned
The corporation also approved steps for establishing new markets at Subhash Nagar and Vallabh Nagar.
A dedicated street food hub is proposed near Annapurna Lake on Annapurna Road. It will replace the existing hawkers’ zone for street vendors and is being planned in accordance with directions of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The move is intended to provide street vendors with a more organised space while improving management of the surrounding public area.
60-Tonne Daily Coconut Waste Plant
Waste management also featured in the civic body’s decisions.
The MIC approved the selection of an agency for setting up, testing and commissioning a 60-tonne-per-day coconut waste processing plant at Devguradia.
The facility is expected to add to the city’s waste-processing infrastructure by creating a dedicated mechanism for handling coconut waste.
CSR Push for Public Spaces
The corporation also decided to use corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the development and beautification of public spaces.
As part of the plan, online tenders will be invited for the construction of 70 new gantries, with advertising rights proposed to be granted for a period of 10 years.
Property Tax and Mutation Reforms
The MIC approved measures concerning property taxation and mutation in illegal colonies.
Property tax accounts can be opened for privately owned properties in illegal colonies where complete ownership documents are available. However, tax will not be collected on government land or encroachments.
An SOP for simplifying property mutation will also be prepared.
Civic Services and Development Review
The meeting also addressed payments to muster-roll workers, with the corporation deciding to follow revised rates fixed by the Indore Collector.
Bhargava said the meeting focused on issues affecting the city and directed officials to improve civic amenities, review the progress of ongoing development works and accelerate Indore’s overall development.
“Necessary directives were issued to improve civic amenities further, review the progress of development works and accelerate the holistic development of Indore,” Bhargava said.
A broader civic infrastructure push
The latest MIC decisions span road connectivity, public-private infrastructure, street-vendor facilities, markets, waste processing, public-space development and property-related civic services, marking a broad municipal development push for Indore.
