In response to protests from the Sikh community, the Maharashtra government has taken a significant step by appointing a Sikh Administrator for Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra. The appointment of Dr. Vijay Satbir Singh, a former IAS officer, reflects the government’s commitment to addressing community concerns and upholding cultural sensitivities.

The appointment of a Sikh Administrator comes in the wake of protests from the Sikh community, who voiced their concerns over the initial selection of a non-Sikh individual, Abhijit Rajendra Raut, as the administrator. This move led to a strong outcry from the community, highlighting the significance of having a representative who understands the cultural and religious nuances associated with Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib.

Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib holds a significant place in Sikh culture and religion, being one of the five high seats of authority for Sikhs. The gurdwara, constructed between 1830 and 1839, embodies the values and principles cherished by the Sikh community. The appointment of a Sikh Administrator is seen as a crucial step toward preserving and respecting the institution’s sanctity.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a prominent figure within the BJP, took a proactive approach by leading a delegation to meet Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This delegation included Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka and general secretary Jagdip Singh Kahlon. Their efforts demonstrated a united stand for appropriate representation.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) executive committee passed a resolution expressing its opposition to the appointment of a non-Sikh administrator for Takht Sri Hazur Sahib. The sentiment conveyed through this resolution highlights the importance of appointing administrators who are well-versed in the customs and beliefs of the Sikh faith.

The Maharashtra government’s decision to appoint a Sikh Administrator for Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib marks a significant step toward fostering cultural understanding and upholding the values cherished by the Sikh community. This move underscores the importance of representation and ensures that the administration of such a revered institution is in the hands of those who understand and respect its significance. It’s a testament to the power of collective voices and the commitment to preserving cultural heritage for generations to come.
