Imphal: Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh, an IPS officer of 1996 batch from AGMUT cadre, has directed police officers in Noney district to intensify anti-extortion operations and expedite the investigation and disposal of pending cases during a comprehensive review of policing and security arrangements in the district.

During his visit to the Noney District Police Headquarters on July 7, the DGP reviewed the prevailing law and order situation, crime trends and the operational preparedness of the district police. He stressed the need for proactive policing and quality investigations to ensure timely justice while strengthening public confidence in law enforcement.

Focus on Anti-Extortion Operations

Addressing senior police officers, Mukesh Singh instructed them to strengthen efforts against extortion networks operating in the district.

He emphasised the importance of:

  • Intensifying anti-extortion operations.
  • Conducting quality investigations.
  • Ensuring prompt investigation and disposal of pending criminal cases.
  • Maintaining a proactive approach to curb criminal activities.

Review of Fringe Area Security

As part of his visit, Singh inspected the CRPF camp at Lamdangmei, where he reviewed the security situation in the district’s fringe areas.

He also held a coordination meeting with commanding officers of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs)deployed in Noney to assess operational preparedness and strengthen coordination between central and state security agencies.

NH-37 Security Reviewed

A key focus of the review was the security of National Highway-37, one of Manipur’s critical lifelines.

The DGP directed security agencies to ensure uninterrupted and secure movement of essential commodities along the Imphal-Jiribam corridor, which remains crucial for the state’s supply chain.

He stressed the need for heightened vigilance and coordinated deployment along vulnerable stretches of the highway.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

During the visit, Mukesh Singh also interacted with representatives of civil society organisations in Noney.

He assured them of the district police’s full cooperation and appealed for continued public support in maintaining law and order, preventing criminal activities and promoting lasting peace in the region.

The interaction highlighted the importance of police-community partnership in ensuring security and stability across the district.
