Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh has issued a strong warning to individuals carrying weapons and attempting to disrupt law and order, stating that security forces will take firm action against anyone resorting to violence.
Speaking to reporters in Churachandpur on Saturday during his first official visit to the district as DGP, Singh said efforts to restore peace in the state would continue through sustained security operations.
Strict Action Against Armed Miscreants
The police chief said no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands. He warned that people found possessing illegal weapons or engaging in violent activities would face immediate legal action.
Singh added that security personnel would respond appropriately in situations where they come under attack, emphasising that any firing on security forces would be met with action in self-defence.
Recovery of Looted Weapons Continues
Providing an update on the recovery of arms looted during the ethnic unrest in Manipur, IPS Mukesh Singh said security agencies have managed to recover nearly 70 per cent of the missing weapons.
He noted that the ongoing operations are aimed at preventing further violence and ensuring that illegal arms do not remain in circulation.
Police Monitoring Social Media Misinformation
Expressing concern over misleading content circulating online, Singh said the police have strengthened surveillance of social media platforms.
According to him, a dedicated monitoring cell is tracking posts and messages that could inflame tensions between communities. Action is being taken against individuals or groups found spreading false or provocative information.
During the visit, Singh reviewed the security situation with district police officers, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles personnel and representatives of civil society organisations in Churachandpur and Bishnupur.
A police statement said the DGP commended security agencies and district police personnel for their recent achievements, including major drug seizures, arrests of armed offenders and the recovery of illegal weapons.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy, Singh said coordinated action against armed groups and unlawful activities would continue until lasting peace and stability are achieved in Manipur.
