New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract worth ₹449 crore for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy. The contract has been awarded to Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category.
The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Indigenous Defence Manufacturing Push Under Aatmanirbhar Bharat
The project is aligned with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, with a minimum 75% indigenous content requirement.
Officials said the contract reflects India’s continued focus on building domestic defence capabilities and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers for critical military technologies.
Advanced GNSS Jamming and Electronic Warfare Capability
The ECGNSS Jammers are designed to strengthen the Indian Navy’s electronic warfare systems by disrupting enemy satellite-based navigation.
Key capabilities include:
- Degrading GNSS signal acquisition and tracking
- Spoofing adversary navigation signals
- Conducting deceptive jamming operations
- Enhancing operational security in contested environments
These systems are expected to significantly improve the Navy’s ability to operate in multi-threat and electronically contested zones.
Boost to Naval Operational Security and Survivability
According to the Ministry of Defence, the induction of these systems will enhance the survivability and effectiveness of Indian naval platforms.
They will help protect vessels from:
- Hostile navigation systems
- Satellite-based targeting mechanisms
- Electronic surveillance and tracking threats
This will ensure stronger mission capability in sensitive maritime operations.
Strengthening India’s Defence Industrial Ecosystem
The contract is also expected to contribute to the growth of India’s domestic defence industry by promoting indigenous design and manufacturing.
Officials noted that such projects help build a robust ecosystem for advanced electronic warfare technologies within the country.
The ₹449 crore contract marks another significant step in India’s efforts to modernize its naval defence capabilities while advancing self-reliance in critical military technologies. The ECGNSS jammers will play a key role in strengthening the Indian Navy’s operational readiness in future electronic warfare scenarios.
