Gwalior: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced an ambitious roadmap to transform the state’s agriculture sector, setting a target to make Madhya Pradesh India’s number one milk-producing state within the next five years.
Speaking at the Advanced Agriculture Divisional Workshop in Gwalior, the Chief Minister said the government is focusing on increasing farmers’ income by promoting multi-crop farming, modern animal husbandry, natural farming, and advanced agricultural technologies.
He said that while Madhya Pradesh currently ranks third in milk production in the country, the government aims to secure the top position through expanded dairy infrastructure and farmer support programmes.
MP Government to Strengthen Dairy Sector Under National Dairy Development Programme
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the state is strengthening the dairy sector through the National Dairy Development Programme.
As part of the initiative, the government is providing greater support to:
- Gwalior Milk Union
- Sanchi Milk Union
The move is expected to increase milk production, improve farmers’ incomes, and create new livelihood opportunities through dairy farming.

Target to Expand Irrigation Coverage to 100 Lakh Hectares
Highlighting the state’s progress in irrigation, CM Yadav said Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a remarkable increase in irrigated land over the past two decades.
According to the Chief Minister:
- Irrigation coverage was around 7.5 lakh hectares in 2003
- It has now expanded to nearly 50 lakh hectares
- The government aims to increase it further to 100 lakh hectares
This expansion will be supported by major projects, including:
- Chambal-Parvati-Kalisindh River Linking Project
- Ken-Betwa River Linking Project
The government believes these projects will significantly improve water availability for agriculture across the state.
Farmers to Get One Year to Repay Agricultural Loans
In a major relief for farmers, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the government has extended the repayment period for agricultural loans.
Farmers will no longer need to repay their loans by the earlier March 31 deadline. Instead, they will now receive one full year to repay their agricultural loans, providing greater financial flexibility.
The decision is expected to reduce financial pressure on cultivators and support sustainable farming.
Modern Cow Shelters to Be Developed Across Major Cities
The Chief Minister also outlined the government’s plans for cow protection and livestock development.
He said the state is replacing the old system of managing stray cattle with modern gaushalas (cow shelters).
Large cow shelters are being developed in:
- Indore
- Ujjain
- Bhopal
- Jabalpur
- Gwalior
The initiative aims to improve cattle welfare while supporting indigenous cattle conservation.
₹13 Crore High-Tech Nursery and Floriculture Garden Coming Up in Gwalior
To promote modern agriculture, the state government is developing a high-tech nursery and floriculture garden in Khureri and Jahangirpur villages of Gwalior.
The project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹13 crore and is expected to help farmers adopt modern cultivation techniques and improve productivity.
The facility will also serve as a centre for advanced horticulture and floriculture practices.
Integrated Farming Models Introduced for Higher Farm Income
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also inaugurated:
- Integrated Farming System
- Multi-Level Farming System
at the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Agricultural University.
These modern farming models are designed to help farmers:
- Reduce cultivation costs
- Increase productivity
- Diversify income sources
- Adopt sustainable farming practices
The integrated system combines crop cultivation, dairy farming, horticulture, livestock, and organic farming to maximise farm profitability.
CM Promotes Road Safety and Environmental Conservation
During the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also promoted road safety by distributing helmets and urging citizens to follow traffic rules.
He further participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign by planting a mango sapling and encouraging people to plant and protect more trees.
Government Focuses on Making Agriculture More Profitable
CM Mohan Yadav said the state government’s priority is to make agriculture a profitable and sustainable profession.
Through continued investment in:
- Dairy development
- Animal husbandry
- Irrigation infrastructure
- Modern agricultural technology
- Natural farming
the government aims to strengthen farmers’ financial security and improve rural livelihoods across Madhya Pradesh.
The comprehensive strategy is expected to accelerate agricultural growth while positioning Madhya Pradesh as a national leader in milk production and modern farming practices.
