Bhopal: The Government of Madhya Pradesh officially concluded the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan 2026 on June 30 with a grand closing ceremony in Rajgarh district. Addressing the event, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted the state’s achievements in water conservation over the 100-day campaign and announced development projects worth ₹352.65 crore for Rajgarh.
The campaign, which ran from March 19 to June 30, focused on restoring and rejuvenating traditional water sources, including wells, stepwells, ponds, rivers, Amrit Sarovars, and other historic water bodies across the state.
According to the Chief Minister, nearly 3.62 lakh water structures have been developed, restored, or revived under the initiative at an estimated cost of around ₹10,000 crore, making Madhya Pradesh one of India’s leading states in water conservation.
Massive Water Conservation Drive Across Madhya Pradesh
Speaking at the closing ceremony, CM Mohan Yadav said that water conservation remains one of the state’s highest priorities. He noted that the campaign successfully revived thousands of traditional water bodies while promoting sustainable water management practices.
The state government undertook extensive works such as:
- Restoration of wells and stepwells
- Rejuvenation of ponds and lakes
- River revival projects
- Development of Amrit Sarovars
- Cleaning of natural drainage channels
- Rainwater harvesting initiatives
- Conservation of old and neglected water sources
The Chief Minister said these efforts have significantly strengthened Madhya Pradesh’s position among the country’s leading states in water resource management.

Rajgarh Receives Development Projects Worth ₹352.65 Crore
During the event, CM Mohan Yadav announced development projects worth ₹352.65 crore for Rajgarh district.
The package includes:
- ₹247.40 crore for the foundation stone laying of 14 development projects
- Approximately ₹105.25 crore for the inauguration of 17 completed projects
Among the major inaugurations were:
- The Sandipani School in Jirapur
- A newly constructed bridge built at a cost of ₹30 crore
The Chief Minister also announced road development works under the Dwarka Yojana for the municipalities of Sarangpur, Pachore, and Rajgarh.
Additionally, he approved the proposal for the construction of Bhainswamata Lok and sanctioned ₹20 crore for its first phase.
Financial Assistance Distributed to Self-Help Groups and Beneficiaries
The government also distributed benefits to several sections of society during the programme.
Key announcements included:
- ₹20 crore financial assistance to 405 Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
- Distribution of tricycles to specially-abled beneficiaries
- Handover of scooter keys to women beneficiaries
- Distribution of benefits under various government welfare schemes
- Release of a coffee table book showcasing Rajgarh’s tourism potential

‘Water is Life’: CM Mohan Yadav’s Message on Water Conservation
Emphasising the importance of water, CM Mohan Yadav said that life cannot exist without water and that Indian culture has always regarded it as sacred.
He pointed out that over 70 percent of the human body consists of water, underlining the need for responsible conservation.
The Chief Minister explained that rivers such as the Parvati, Chambal, Kalisindh, and Shipra eventually join the holy Ganga, which inspired the naming of the campaign as ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan.’
He stressed that future efforts would continue to focus on:
- Rainwater harvesting
- River rejuvenation
- Cleaning natural drains
- Protection of traditional water sources
- Sustainable groundwater recharge
According to the Chief Minister, preserving every drop of water is essential for future generations.
Low Rainfall Forecast Prompts Continued Conservation Efforts
Referring to weather predictions, CM Mohan Yadav said that the possible impact of El Niño could result in below-normal rainfall this year.
Because of this, the state government plans to continue expanding initiatives such as:
- Amrit Sarovar development
- Rainwater harvesting
- River conservation projects
- Protection of traditional water bodies
He urged citizens to actively participate in water conservation through community involvement.
Irrigation Expansion Boosts Agriculture and Employment
The Chief Minister highlighted significant improvements in irrigation infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh.
According to him:
- The state’s irrigated area has increased from 44 lakh hectares in 2023 to 65 lakh hectares.
- In Rajgarh district, irrigated land has expanded dramatically from 50,000 hectares to nearly 2.5 lakh hectares within the last three years.
He said the expansion has strengthened agriculture, reduced migration, and created local employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister added that farmers continue to receive support through:
- Wheat procurement at ₹2,625 per quintal
- PM Kisan Samman Nidhi
- Multiple state welfare programmes
He also highlighted government support for schoolchildren through free uniforms, books, notebooks, and bicycles, as well as financial assistance under the Ladli Behna Yojana.

Preparation for Ujjain Simhastha 2028 Gains Momentum
CM Mohan Yadav also spoke about preparations for Simhastha 2028 in Ujjain.
He said the state government expects nearly 40 crore pilgrims to visit the religious gathering, making it one of the largest spiritual events in the world.
To accommodate the expected influx, the government is accelerating infrastructure development, including:
- New road connectivity projects
- Improved transportation networks
- Better civic infrastructure
- Enhanced facilities for pilgrims
Road projects connecting Bhopal, Rajgarh, Ujjain, and Mandsaur are also progressing rapidly.
CM Highlights Importance of Friendship and Public Welfare
During his address, the Chief Minister referred to the friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudama, describing it as an example of selfless support and compassion.
He said society should learn to help others without expecting recognition or gratitude.
Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, he stated that every section of society continues to benefit from various schemes aimed at improving livelihoods and social security.
Panchayat Minister Calls for Saving Every Drop of Water
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel also addressed the gathering.
He noted that Rajgarh has historically faced water scarcity and depends heavily on water conservation and storage to meet its needs.
Citing forecasts of lower rainfall this monsoon, Patel urged citizens to conserve every drop of water and actively participate in water-saving initiatives.
He added that the government is scientifically evaluating the work completed under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan and believes public participation will remain the key to long-term water security.
