Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has urged farmers to move beyond traditional farming and adopt crop diversification, horticulture, dairy production and animal husbandry to increase their income.
Addressing the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Ashoknagar virtually from Samatva Bhawan in Bhopal, Yadav said technology and innovation are creating new opportunities for farmers and rural youth.
Ashoknagar Farmers Show the Way
Yadav praised Ashoknagar farmers for adopting new approaches despite challenges such as low rainfall. He highlighted the district’s popular Sharbati wheat and growing cultivation of coriander and roses.
Farmers have also expanded paddy cultivation using DRS technology. The area under gram and lentils has increased as farmers adopt greater crop diversification.
More Income Through Allied Activities
The Chief Minister encouraged farmers to add dairy farming and fish farming to crop production. He said combining different agricultural activities can create additional income sources and reduce dependence on a single crop.
He also said agriculture and allied sectors can open new employment opportunities for rural youth.
Daytime Electricity and Irrigation Support
Yadav said the government is working to make farming more profitable by improving electricity, water and road connectivity.
Farmers will soon receive adequate electricity during the daytime, while subsidised power pumps of 5, 7 and 10 horsepower are being provided for irrigation.
The government is also expanding road connectivity to agricultural areas. Farmers whose agricultural land is acquired will receive compensation of up to four times the land value, according to the Chief Minister.
Push to Increase Milk Production
The state government is working to increase milk production from 12% to 20%, with various activities aimed at strengthening the dairy sector.
Yadav also highlighted the Ladli Behna Yojana and Kisan Samman Nidhi, saying government support is helping improve the economic condition of families.
He said the government remains committed to protecting the future of farmers and improving opportunities for the next generation through better education and infrastructure.
Farmer Welfare Remains a Priority
Calling farmers and soldiers equally important to the country, Yadav said farmers play a crucial role in ensuring food security and supporting the wider economy.
He said Madhya Pradesh is observing a Farmer Welfare Year, with continued efforts to improve irrigation, electricity, roads and other agricultural infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also interacted virtually with farmers at the Balram Krishi Mahotsav and extended greetings on Janmashtami, Balram Jayanti and Raksha Bandhan.
