Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness across the Kashmir Valley during a meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, with officers joining from different ranges and districts.
The review focused on strengthening the capabilities of police personnel, improving operational readiness and ensuring that field formations remain prepared to respond to evolving security requirements.
DGP Reviews Security Situation and Field Preparedness
The meeting was attended in person by IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar (IPS: 2007: AGMUT), the DIG Central Kashmir Range, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Srinagar, SP Cargo and other officers.

The DIGs of the South Kashmir Range and North Kashmir Range, along with district SSPs of the Kashmir Zone, participated through video conferencing.
Senior officers briefed Prabhat on the prevailing security situation, operational preparedness and important security-related developments across their jurisdictions.
Focus on Technology-Driven Policing and Training
Prabhat stressed the need for continued vigilance, proactive policing and closer coordination among police formations.
He also called for timely sharing of actionable intelligence to strengthen preparedness at the field level.
The DGP emphasised regular and specialised training based on the operational requirements of personnel. He directed officers to provide continuous opportunities for professional development and capacity building.
A key focus was the adoption of modern and technology-enabled policing methods, alongside efforts to strengthen specialised expertise within the force.
Police Personnel Asked to Stay Operationally Ready
The meeting also reviewed initiatives and structured programmes aimed at improving the professional capabilities and operational readiness of police personnel.
Prabhat directed officers to maintain sustained attention on professional development so that personnel remain equipped to deal with changing operational and security requirements.
The meeting concluded with directions to maintain field-level preparedness, strengthen coordination and continue capacity-building efforts across Kashmir’s police formations.
Who Is Nalin Prabhat?
Nalin Prabhat (IPS: 1992: AGMUT) is the Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir. A graduate and postgraduate of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, Prabhat has spent much of his career in counter-insurgency and internal-security operations.
He served in Andhra Pradesh Police, including as the head of the Greyhounds, the state’s specialised anti-Naxal force. He later held several senior positions in the CRPF.
In 2024, Prabhat was appointed Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG), but his tenure was curtailed when he was moved to the AGMUT cadre on inter-cadre deputation and appointed to lead the J&K Police. He took charge as J&K DGP on October 1, 2024.
Prabhat has received multiple service and gallantry honours, including the Police Medal for Gallantry three times, the Parakram Padak and medals recognising distinguished and meritorious service.
