Preparations are underway for the appointment of a new Director General of Police (DGP) in Chhattisgarh, as the extended tenure of the incumbent police chief, 1989 batch IPS officer Ashok Juneja, is set to conclude on February 5, 2025.
The Chhattisgarh government has sent a panel of names to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for consideration, consisting of three senior IPS officers who have already been promoted to the rank of Director General (DG). The officers on the panel are:
- Arun Dev Gautam (IPS: 1992: CG)
- Pawan Dev (IPS: 1992: CG)
- Himanshu Gupta (IPS: 1994: CG)
These officers are now in the running for the top post in the state police force, which will become vacant when Ashok Juneja’s tenure concludes early next year.
In addition to the three officers selected for the UPSC panel, two other senior IPS officers were also under consideration. SRP Kalluri (IPS: 1994: CG) and Pradeep Gupta (IPS: 1995: CG) were included in the initial discussions but were ultimately not sent to the UPSC for final selection.
The next DGP will play a crucial role in continuing the efforts of modernizing and strengthening Chhattisgarh’s law enforcement agencies, which have been under the leadership of Ashok Juneja since his appointment.
With the panel now in the hands of UPSC, the final decision on the next DGP will be awaited in the coming months.
