India’s demographic dividend can become its biggest economic strength — but only if education, skills, and jobs move in the same direction. Recognising this challenge, NITI Aayog has initiated a major national effort to align the country’s education and skilling ecosystem with future employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
PANEL TO SHAPE INDIA’S SERVICES-LED GROWTH
On May 22, 2026, NITI Aayog convened the first meeting of the High-Powered ‘Education to Employment and Enterprise’ Standing Committee under the chairpersonship of Nidhi Chibber. The committee was proposed in the Union Budget 2026–27 to help India secure a 10% share in the global services market by 2047.

The committee includes representatives from key ministries, state governments, industry bodies such as NASSCOM, FICCI, and Confederation of Indian Industry, along with experts from academia and the skilling ecosystem.
FOCUS ON AI, EMPLOYABILITY, AND FUTURE JOBS
The discussions focused on youth employment, labour force participation, workforce preparedness, and the growing impact of frontier technologies like Artificial Intelligence on jobs and skills.
Nidhi Chibber stressed the need for stronger alignment between education and evolving economic requirements, noting that India’s young population presents a major opportunity for long-term growth.
Dr. Sonia Pant of NITI Aayog highlighted the expanding role of the services sector in economic resilience, exports, and quality employment generation.
TOWARDS A ‘VIKSIT BHARAT’
The committee decided to hold regular meetings and develop actionable recommendations on employability, entrepreneurship, and industry-oriented skilling. The broader aim is to transform India’s demographic dividend into a sustained growth dividend while building a future-ready workforce for a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
