New Delhi: NMDC Limited has set an ambitious target of producing 60 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore in FY27 and aims to reach 100 MT by 2030, following its record production of 53.15 MT in FY26.
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at NMDC’s Corporate Office in Hyderabad, Chairman and Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee said the company has a critical role in strengthening India’s mineral security, industrial growth and self-reliance.
NMDC Sets 60 MT Production Target for FY27
NMDC became the first mining company in India to produce more than 50 MT of iron ore in a single year in FY26.
The company recorded:
- 53.15 MT iron ore production in FY26
- 50.23 MT iron ore sales in FY26
- FY27 production target of 60 MT
- Long-term production target of 100 MT by 2030
The company is undertaking several initiatives to increase its production capacity, improve operational efficiency and strengthen infrastructure to achieve these targets.

NMDC Records 26% Production Growth in Q1 FY27
NMDC maintained its growth momentum in the first quarter of FY27, with iron ore production rising 26% year-on-year to 15.12 MT.
The company recorded sales of 11.73 MT during the quarter, while turnover increased 2% to ₹6,795 crore.

The strong production performance provides momentum for NMDC’s target of reaching 60 MT of iron ore production during FY27.
NMDC Expands Beyond Iron Ore
Alongside increasing its iron ore production, NMDC is diversifying its operations into coal, steel and strategic minerals.
The company has operationalised its first coal asset, the Tokisud North Coal Mine in Jharkhand.
NMDC is also working to strengthen its processing capabilities, with the commissioning of Deposit-4 and Deposit-13 at Bailadila expected to contribute to capacity expansion.
These initiatives form part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its position across India’s mineral and industrial value chain.
Nagarnar Steel Plant Crosses 7 MT Hot Metal Production
NMDC’s Nagarnar Steel Plant has crossed 7 MT of cumulative hot metal production.
The steel plant has also reported profits for two consecutive quarters, marking an improvement in its financial performance.
In Q1 FY27, the Nagarnar Steel Plant recorded a profit after tax (PAT) of ₹50.51 crore.
The development highlights NMDC’s growing presence beyond mining and its expanding role in the steel value chain.
NMDC Focuses on Mineral Security and Self-Reliance
Speaking during the Independence Day celebrations, CMD Amitava Mukherjee highlighted NMDC’s role in strengthening India’s mineral security.
The company is focusing on increasing domestic production while expanding into strategic areas to support the country’s industrial growth and reduce dependence on external sources.
The planned increase from 53.15 MT in FY26 to 60 MT in FY27, followed by the long-term target of 100 MT by 2030, reflects NMDC’s growth strategy.
NMDC Highlights Social Development Initiatives
NMDC also highlighted its social development initiatives during the Independence Day celebrations.
Under the company’s Balika Shiksha Yojana, 783 young women have received support for higher education.
Meanwhile, under the Chhoo Lo Aasmaan initiative, 22 students are expected to secure admission to MBBS programmes this year.
These initiatives form part of NMDC’s efforts to support education and create opportunities for students from communities associated with its operational areas.
Independence Day Celebrations Held Across NMDC Units
Independence Day celebrations were organised across NMDC’s mining units and offices.
As part of the celebrations, awards were presented to the winners of the NMDC Chess Tournament 2026.
Employees also participated in various Independence Day games and activities organised across the company’s locations.
