Jorhat: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has commissioned gas evacuation facilities at Khoraghat GGS-1 in Golaghat district, Assam, marking a significant step towards improving natural gas availability in the North-East.
The facility will enable surplus associated natural gas from ONGC’s Upper Assam Shelf to be processed and evacuated through the North East Gas Grid (NEGG), developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL).
The new connectivity is expected to facilitate the utilisation of nearly 1 lakh Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas per day from ONGC’s Jorhat Asset.
Khoraghat Facility Connects ONGC Gas to North East Gas Grid
The commissioning of the Khoraghat GGS-1 evacuation facility will provide ONGC with an additional route to transport surplus natural gas into the regional gas grid.
The development is expected to improve the utilisation of gas produced from ONGC’s assets while strengthening connectivity with the wider gas infrastructure network in the North-East.
The project also complements the commissioning of the Dergaon-Dimapur pipeline, which has connected Nagaland with the North East Gas Grid and the National Gas Grid.

More Jorhat Fields to Be Connected
ONGC is also developing additional hook-up facilities at Jantapathar and Kasomarigaon.
These facilities will connect additional producing fields of the Jorhat Asset with the North East Gas Grid. Once completed, the additional connectivity is expected to further increase the availability of natural gas in the region.
The upcoming connections will also support better utilisation of locally produced gas and strengthen the region’s gas transmission infrastructure.
Gas Availability to Benefit Households and Industries
Improved access to natural gas is expected to create opportunities across several sectors in Assam and the wider North-East.
The increased gas availability can support:
- Households through improved access to gas-based energy.
- Industries by providing an additional energy source.
- Transport through greater availability of natural gas.
- Power generation by strengthening gas supply.
- Regional infrastructure and economic development through a stronger gas-based economy.
The enhanced connectivity is also expected to reduce gas flaring by enabling more of the produced gas to be evacuated and utilised.
Strengthening North-East’s Gas-Based Economy
The Khoraghat development is part of broader efforts to integrate the North-East more closely with India’s national gas infrastructure.
By connecting additional producing fields to the North East Gas Grid, ONGC is working to improve gas utilisation and support the development of a stronger regional gas economy.
The projects are expected to contribute to India’s broader objective of expanding gas-based energy infrastructure while supporting economic growth and infrastructure development across the North-East.
