Chandigarh: The Punjab government is accelerating efforts to bring large-scale reforms in agriculture, education, and industry by adopting global best practices. Inspired by recent visits to European countries, the state is preparing to implement modern models aimed at improving productivity, education quality, and investment inflows.
The initiative focuses on achieving higher output with fewer resources, enhancing learning outcomes, and making Punjab a preferred destination for industrial investment.
European Farming Models to Boost Agricultural Productivity
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, and Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora shared insights from visits to Finland and the Netherlands, highlighting advanced agricultural technologies.
Modern greenhouse systems such as polyhouse and glasshouse farming have significantly transformed production patterns abroad. According to officials:
- Yield increases from 5–6 kg per square meter to 80–100 kg
- Drastic reduction in water usage
- Minimal chemical dependency
The Punjab government now plans to adopt similar technology-driven agricultural practices across the state.
Education System Reforms Inspired by Finland Model
The Finnish education model has been identified as a key inspiration for Punjab’s education reforms. The system places strong emphasis on teacher training and quality learning environments.
To strengthen academic excellence, the state plans to:
- Enhance teacher training programs
- Improve school infrastructure
- Strengthen student support systems
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that students who recently cleared the JEE Main examination will be honoured at an event in Mohali’s Vikas Bhawan. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will also attend the ceremony to encourage the students.
Industrial Growth Strategy Focused on Global Investment
Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora said the delegation held productive discussions with international investors and companies during the Europe visit.
Key investment interests include:
- Agri-tech
- Food processing
- Semiconductor manufacturing
Several global companies have also shown interest in setting up manufacturing units in Punjab.
The government is working on:
- Faster approval systems
- Improved infrastructure
- Investor-friendly policies
to attract global capital and boost industrial development.
Future International Delegations and Skill Development
The government has announced that another delegation will be sent abroad on May 18, involving experts from multiple sectors.
So far, over 200 participants have been trained under similar exchange and exposure programs.
