Patiala, Punjab: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government’s ‘Sehat Card’ initiative is gaining strong public response across the state, with a major turnout recorded at a two-day health camp held in Patiala.
The camp was organized on April 11 and 12 at Rajendra Gymkhana and Mahindra Club (RGMC), where members, their families, and employees actively participated. The primary objective of the camp was to spread awareness about preventive healthcare and facilitate registration under the Chief Minister Sehat Scheme.
500+ Registrations Recorded During Camp
More than 500 people registered for the Sehat Card during the two-day event. Many participants appreciated the initiative and showed keen interest in enrolling along with their family members.
The initiative highlighted growing awareness about structured and comprehensive healthcare coverage among citizens, particularly in urban and institutional communities.
What is the Sehat Card Scheme?
The Sehat Card under the Punjab government provides cashless health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family per year. The scheme is designed to offer financial protection during medical emergencies and ensure access to quality healthcare services without financial burden.
Officials stated that more than 35 lakh Sehat Cards have already been issued across Punjab, while around 50,000 registrations are being recorded daily in various districts of the state.
Government Aiming for 100% Coverage
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized the importance of universal health coverage under the scheme. He stated that health is a top priority for the government, noting that diseases do not discriminate between the rich and the poor.
He added that the government’s goal is to achieve 100% Sehat Card coverage across the state, with registrations steadily increasing from 34 lakh to 40 lakh and continuing to grow.
Cashless Treatment and Easy Enrollment
The Health Minister also highlighted that treatment under the Sehat Card is completely cashless, as insurance companies have already been paid in advance. He noted that the registration process has been simplified and health services are being made accessible through door-to-door facilities and organized camps in villages, towns, and markets.
He further stated that additional benefits are available to Ayushman cardholders, strengthening the overall healthcare safety net.
Strong Public Participation at RGMC Camp
Representatives from RGMC, including officials and club members, praised the initiative. According to organizers, the camp saw enthusiastic participation from prominent individuals including academicians, MLAs, IAS officers, doctors, industrialists, and government officials, many of whom completed their registrations.
Organizers described the response as highly encouraging, noting that members and staff actively engaged in the process and appreciated the benefits of the scheme.
Expanding Healthcare Access Across Punjab
The success of the Patiala camp reflects the broader impact of the Punjab government’s effort to improve healthcare accessibility. Authorities are continuing to organize daily enrollment camps at easily accessible locations such as gurdwaras, panchayat houses, temples, and community centers, operating from 8 AM to 4 PM to maximize public participation.
