Rishikesh (Uttarakhand): Strengthening the state’s commitment to modern urban infrastructure and sustainable tourism management, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of three development projects worth ₹29.78 crore in Rishikesh. The announcement was made during the 117th Executive Committee meeting of the All India Council of Mayors held in the city.
Key Urban Infrastructure Projects Launched
During the event, the Chief Minister unveiled multiple civic development initiatives aimed at improving urban services and environmental sustainability in the region.
The major projects include:
- A ₹23.15 crore compost plant and sanitary landfill site at Lal Pani Beat
- Rainwater harvesting systems in the Rishikesh Municipal Corporation area
- Foundation stone for EV charging stations to promote electric mobility
These initiatives are expected to enhance waste management, water conservation, and green mobility infrastructure in the city.
CM Highlights Role of Urban Leadership
Addressing the mayors’ forum, CM Dhami emphasized the critical role of urban leadership in shaping India’s global image and economic growth.
He stated that mayors serve not only as administrative heads but also as representatives of public aspirations, whose decisions have long-term impacts on future generations.
He highlighted that while India’s soul lies in its villages, its aspirations and future opportunities are shaped in cities.
Focus on Central Government Urban Development Schemes
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the contribution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in transforming urban development across the country through flagship schemes.
He mentioned key initiatives such as:
- Swachh Bharat Mission
- Smart Cities Mission
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
- PM SVANidhi Scheme
According to him, these programs have collectively strengthened sanitation systems, urban planning, housing accessibility, and financial inclusion for street vendors and small businesses.
Tourism Growth and Pilgrimage Records in Uttarakhand
Highlighting the rapid growth of spiritual tourism in the state, CM Dhami shared significant visitor statistics.
He noted that:
- Over 30 lakh pilgrims visited the Char Dham Yatra in the first 45 days of the season
- Around 1,000 devotees now visit Adi Kailash daily
- Over 24 lakh devotees have visited Maa Purnagiri Temple in the last four years
- More than 23 crore tourists have visited Uttarakhand overall
He stated that the government’s priority is to ensure safe, smooth, and convenient pilgrimage experiences for all visitors.
Vision for Sustainable and Developed Cities
Emphasizing long-term urban transformation, the Chief Minister said that clean, well-organized, and safe cities are essential for building a developed India.
He stressed that improving urban infrastructure directly contributes to national progress and global perception, reinforcing the vision of a “Developed India.”
