Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Approves ₹1,252 Crore Projects for Kumbh 2027, Infrastructure & Education Boost

Dehradun: In a significant push toward infrastructure and public welfare ahead of the election year, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved ₹1,252 crore worth of development projects across multiple sectors. These include Kumbh 2027 preparations, education, tourism, drinking water, disaster management, and urban infrastructure, signaling a strong focus on both economic growth and public services.

Major Allocation for Kumbh Mela 2027 Preparations

A large portion of the approved budget has been dedicated to preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar, aiming to ensure a grand and well-organized religious gathering.

Key projects include:

  • Development of the Ganga Corridor in Haridwar
  • ₹69.06 crore for upgrading the Har Ki Pauri North area
  • Road improvement and widening in Kumbh zones
  • Pipeline laying and pumping-based water supply systems
  • Electricity line shifting for better infrastructure

These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance pilgrim convenience, sanitation, and crowd management.

Boost to Religious Tourism: Rishikesh & Tehri Projects

The government is also focusing on boosting religious and eco-tourism:

  • ₹115 crore approved for redevelopment of Triveni Ghat under the Rishikesh Ganga Corridor
  • ₹56.07 crore released as the first installment for the Tehri Lake Ring Road project, improving regional connectivity

Additionally, a unique tourism initiative has been introduced:

  • ₹4.67 crore for Igloo Dome huts near the Kailash Mansarovar route in Dharchula (Pithoragarh)
  • The project aims to promote astro-tourism, offering visitors a stargazing experience while generating local employment

Education Sector Gets Major Financial Support

The state government has allocated significant funds to strengthen education:

  • ₹446 crore under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan for salaries, allowances, and institutional expenses
  • ₹77.69 crore for salary payments of staff in 21 aided colleges for April–September FY26

This funding will ensure smooth functioning of schools and higher education institutions across Uttarakhand.

₹350 Crore MLA Fund to Accelerate Local Development

To boost grassroots development:

  • ₹5 crore allocated per MLA
  • Total allocation: ₹350 crore for 70 legislators

This move is expected to enable region-specific development projects, addressing local infrastructure and civic needs.

Urban Development, Health & Infrastructure Projects

Several key projects have been approved to improve urban infrastructure and public safety:

  • ₹56 crore for urban health centers
  • Parking facility in Lohaghat (Champawat)
  • Police housing in Tanakpur
  • Flood protection work in Raipur (Dehradun)
  • Drinking water system upgrades in Haridwar

Additionally, ₹4.86 crore has been approved to replace damaged water pipelines in Shivlok and Aryanagar, ensuring reliable water supply.

Disaster Management Fund for All Districts

Recognizing Uttarakhand’s vulnerability to natural disasters:

  • ₹13 crore allocated under the Disaster Mitigation Fund
  • ₹1 crore each for all 13 districts

This funding aims to reduce risks from landslides, floods, and other natural calamities, which frequently impact the state.

Focus on Connectivity and Border Area Development

The government has also emphasized development in remote and border areas:

  • Tehri Lake Ring Road project to enhance connectivity
  • Tourism infrastructure in Pithoragarh district
  • Development along the Kailash Mansarovar route

These initiatives are expected to strengthen regional connectivity, tourism, and local economies.

Drinking Water and Civic Infrastructure Improvements

To improve urban living conditions:

  • ₹6 crore approved for water pipeline and pumping system upgrades in Kumbh areas
  • ₹6 crore for road repairs in Bahadrabad block
  • ₹99 lakh for electricity line shifting
  • ₹4.86 crore for Haridwar water distribution system upgrades

These steps aim to ensure clean drinking water and better civic infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.

The ₹1,252 crore approvals reflect a comprehensive development strategy, combining religious tourism, infrastructure expansion, education funding, and disaster preparedness. With a strong focus on Kumbh 2027 and grassroots development, the government is aiming to drive economic growth while improving public services across Uttarakhand.
