In a significant reshuffle just before the Puja festivities in West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee led state government has implemented several senior-level transfers within both Kolkata Police and Bengal Police.
2002 batch IPS officer Devendra Prakash Singh has been appointed as the Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police, increasing the total number of Additional CPs in the force to six. Singh was previously serving as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Traffic.
2005 batch IPS officer Gaurav Sharma, formerly the IGP of the Special Task Force, has now taken over the role of IGP Traffic. This strategic appointment is aimed at enhancing traffic management and safety in the city during the festive season.
Other notable transfers include:
- Tathagata Basu, a DIG-ranked officer from the Police Recruitment Board, has been transferred to the Police Directorate.
- Pankaj Kumar Dwivedi has moved from the Howrah Special Reserve Police to the Special Armed Police as the Circle Officer.
- Ms. Pushpa, the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Armed Police, is now assigned to Howrah Special Reserve Police.
- Kunwar Bhushan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of the Kolkata Police’s Combat Branch, has been transferred to the Siliguri Reserve Police.
- These changes reflect the state’s commitment to ensuring effective law enforcement and public safety during the upcoming Puja celebrations.
