Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major environmental initiative aimed at making the capital cleaner and more pollution-free. On Friday, she declared the development of 100 “Oxygen Parks” across Delhi, starting with the foundation stone laying in Mukmelpur village, Burari.
The first park will be developed over three acres at an estimated cost of around ₹1 crore, marking the beginning of the city-wide green transformation plan.
First Oxygen Park Launched in Mukmelpur, Burari
The initiative was formally launched in Burari, where CM Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for the Mukmelpur Park. The upcoming park will be developed with modern facilities including walking tracks, seating huts, a water body, and other public amenities.
The Chief Minister said the park will be designed to enhance green cover and serve as a model for future oxygen parks across the city.
Designed to Improve Air Quality and Urban Biodiversity
According to the Chief Minister, these oxygen parks will not be ordinary public parks. They will feature dense plantation of trees aimed at maximizing oxygen output and reducing air pollution levels in the capital.
A key focus of the project is planting a large number of fruit-bearing trees, which will provide multiple benefits:
- Improved air quality and reduced pollution
- Increased green cover in urban areas
- Habitat and food source for birds
- Strengthening of urban biodiversity
Officials believe these parks will help create cleaner and more livable green spaces across Delhi.
Political Remarks on Delhi’s Pollution Challenge
During the event, CM Rekha Gupta criticized previous governments, stating that Delhi had been turned into a “gas chamber” due to years of inadequate action on pollution control. She said her government has been actively working for the past year to address environmental challenges and that the 100 oxygen parks are part of a long-term strategy to improve the capital’s air quality.
Plan to Develop 100 Oxygen Parks Across Delhi
The Delhi government has planned to develop 100 oxygen parks in phases across the city. After the completion of the first park in Burari, similar green spaces will be established in other locations.
The government aims to significantly increase Delhi’s green cover and provide residents with cleaner air and healthier public spaces. Officials believe the initiative will play a crucial role in reducing pollution levels and improving overall environmental conditions in the national capital.
Step Toward a Greener and Cleaner Capital
The oxygen park initiative is part of Delhi’s broader environmental strategy focused on sustainability, afforestation, and pollution control. With increased plantation and eco-friendly urban planning, the government hopes to transform Delhi into a greener and healthier city in the coming years.
