Gandhinagar/Kutch: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a ₹629 crore project to convert six key roads in Kutch district into four-lane corridors. The initiative aims to improve rural connectivity, ease freight movement linked to Mundra Port, and boost tourism in the region.
The approval is part of the state government’s broader strategy to upgrade important road corridors across Gujarat and strengthen infrastructure in both rural and industrial areas.
Focus on Rural Connectivity and Industrial Growth
According to the state government, the investment will be used to widen and upgrade a network of roads and bypasses around Mundra and nearby villages in Kutch.
Officials said the project will significantly improve transportation infrastructure for local residents while supporting industrial and commercial growth in the region.
Key Roads Included in the Project
The approved road development package includes several major stretches, such as:
- 4.1 km stretch of Mundra–Luni Vadala road to be upgraded to four lanes
- 5.1 km stretch of Deshalpar–Siracha road for widening and improvement
- 5.5 km of Mundra–Jarpura–Kandagara–Dhrab road
- 3.3 km Jarpura village bypass road
- 4.5 km road serving Mota Kandagara village
- 20 km stretch between chainage 19 and 39 of Mundra–Jarpura–Kandagara road
These improvements also include bypass construction around Jarpura and Navinal villages to ease traffic flow.
Improved Traffic Flow and Reduced Congestion
Officials stated that the upgraded four-lane roads will make travel more convenient for villagers and significantly reduce congestion in populated areas.
The construction of bypass roads is expected to divert heavy traffic away from village centers, improving safety and easing local movement.
Boost to Mundra Port Freight Movement
The upgraded road network is expected to benefit freight transportation linked to Mundra Port, one of India’s largest commercial ports.
Heavy vehicles will be able to move goods more efficiently and safely between industrial hubs and commercial centers, improving overall logistics performance in the region.
Economic and Tourism Development Expected
Authorities believe that improved road connectivity will further strengthen economic activity in Kutch, a region known for its growing industrial base and emerging tourism sector.
The project is expected to enhance access to key industrial zones while also supporting tourism growth by improving travel infrastructure across the district.
