Bareilly: Bareilly Bakarganj area is set for a major transformation as the Municipal Corporation plans to develop a modern park across 20 acres of land at an estimated cost of ₹25 crore. The project aims to replace a long-standing garbage dumping site with green spaces and modern public facilities.

The proposed park will include an open gym, children’s play areas, walking paths and landscaped gardens, giving local residents a cleaner and more attractive public space.

Details of Bareilly Bakarganj Park Project

For many years, Bakarganj has been known for its large garbage dump. The accumulated waste has caused problems for nearby residents, including bad smells, dirt and environmental concerns.

Now, the Bareilly Municipal Corporation is planning to give this area a completely new look. Around 20 acres of land will be developed into a modern public park with an estimated investment of ₹25 crore.

The project aims to provide a better recreational space for families, children, young people and senior citizens.

Bareilly Bakarganj Park Project: Around 14 Lakh Tonnes Of Garbage Already Processed

According to the reported project details, around 15.5 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste had accumulated at the Bakarganj dumping site.

Of this amount, approximately 14 lakh metric tonnes have already been processed. The remaining waste is expected to be removed through continued waste-processing operations. The civic authorities are working to clear the remaining garbage so that the land can be used for public development.

Bareilly Bakarganj Park Project: Modern Machines Speed Up Garbage Processing

The city has started using modern machinery to improve waste management and reduce the old garbage mountain.

According to the reported details, machines with a processing capacity of around 1,700 tonnes are being used for waste sorting and processing. An additional machine with a capacity of 500 tonnes is also being installed.

These machines separate useful materials from waste. The remaining unusable material is then disposed of through scientific methods. This process is expected to make the area cleaner and prepare the land for future development.

Bareilly Bakarganj Park Project: New Park To Include Open Gym And Children’s Play Areas

The proposed Bakarganj Park will offer several facilities for people of different age groups. The main planned attractions include:

  • Open Gym: Outdoor fitness equipment for people who want to exercise.
  • Children’s Play Area: Swings and modern play equipment for children.
  • Walking Paths: Dedicated spaces for morning and evening walks.
  • Green Spaces: Landscaped gardens and plantations to improve the surroundings.
  • Recreational Facilities: Open areas where families can relax and spend time together.

The project is expected to create a better environment for residents and provide more opportunities for outdoor activities.

Sathrapur Waste Processing Plant To Improve Bareilly’s Cleanliness

The Sathrapur Solid Waste Management Plant is playing an important role in improving Bareilly’s waste management system. The plant was developed at an estimated cost of ₹27 crore on around 20 hectares of land. It has a reported processing capacity of 500 metric tonnes of waste per day.

After several years of delay, the facility started operations in October 2026. The Delhi-based Pathya agency was selected to manage its operations. The municipal corporation is reportedly paying ₹446 per metric tonne for waste processing.

Bareilly Bakarganj Park Project: Garbage From 80 Wards To Be Sent For Processing

Bareilly generates approximately 450 to 500 metric tonnes of garbage every day. The city’s 80 wards are now connected to the improved waste-management system, with daily waste being transported to the Sathrapur facility.

This arrangement is important because it can prevent fresh garbage from accumulating at Bakarganj while the old waste is being cleared. It will also help the city improve its overall waste collection and disposal system.

More Development Projects Planned On Vacant Land

The transformation of Bakarganj may also create opportunities for other development projects.

After the removal of accumulated garbage, the municipal corporation is reportedly exploring the possibility of using other vacant portions of the land for residential development through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Such projects could support better urban infrastructure and create additional development opportunities. However, these are proposals under consideration and should not be confused with confirmed construction plans.

How The Bareilly Bakarganj Park Project Could Benefit Bareilly

The proposed park could bring several benefits to Bareilly residents. First, removing the old garbage dump could improve cleanliness and reduce unpleasant smells in the surrounding areas.

Second, the green spaces and recreational facilities could provide residents with a healthier place for walking, exercise and family activities. The project could also improve the appearance of the area and support the city’s broader urban development plans.
