Discover how Ahmedabad's new short film competition is turning traffic rules into cinematic tales, spearheaded by DCP Safin Hassan's innovative vision for road safety revolution.
Indian Masterminds Stories

From the chaotic crossroads of urban life to the serene highways stretching into the horizon, traffic rules form the invisible threads that weave together the safety fabric of any city. In Ahmedabad, where the rhythm of daily life beats to the tune of bustling streets and endless commutes, following these rules isn’t just about compliance; it’s a lifeline that ensures harmony amid the hustle. Here, amidst the symphony of honking horns and weaving vehicles, Safin Hassan, the steadfast Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), has emerged as a catalyst for change.

AN EXCITING INITIATIVE

Ahmedabad City Traffic Police, under Mr. Hassan’s leadership, has launched an innovative initiative aimed at fostering community engagement and promoting adherence to traffic rules through a unique platform: a short film competition.

Ahmedabad City Traffic Police is organizing a groundbreaking competition inviting entries for short films that spotlight the importance of traffic rules and safety. The theme, “Spread Awareness About Traffic Rules,” underscores the urgent need for collective responsibility in ensuring road safety.

OBJECTIVES AND IMPACT

This initiative aims not only to educate citizens but also to cultivate a sense of partnership between the community and law enforcement.

“By encouraging creativity and civic participation, we hope to instill a lasting commitment to safer road practices among Ahmedabad’s residents,” Mr. Hassan told Indian Masterminds.

PRIZES AND RECOGNITION

Participants from all walks of life, ranging from individuals to media houses and academic institutions, have enthusiastically embraced the competition. With substantial cash prizes totaling up to ₹2 lakhs for the winner, ₹1.5 lakhs for the runner-up, and ₹1 lakh for the third position, the competition promises not only financial incentives but also the opportunity for filmmakers to contribute meaningfully to their community.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Strict guidelines ensure fairness and quality in the submissions. Films must adhere to a maximum duration of two minutes and can be in either Gujarati or Hindi, reflecting the local cultural and linguistic diversity. The films must have been produced within a specified timeframe to ensure relevance and timeliness.

“A distinguished jury will evaluate the entries, with winning films slated for public screening and dissemination via digital platforms. Our rigorous selection process aims to showcase the best creative expressions while amplifying the message of traffic safety across broader audiences,” shared the officer.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE

Since its announcement, the competition has garnered widespread attention and participation. Thousands have already registered, signaling a groundswell of public interest and commitment to improving traffic behavior and safety norms in Ahmedabad.

Looking ahead, Mr. Hassan envisions expanding such initiatives to encompass a wider array of community-driven projects aimed at creating a safer, more conscientious urban environment. His proactive approach underscores a commitment to proactive policing and community empowerment.

As Ahmedabad prepares to witness the culmination of this creative endeavor, Safin Hassan’s leadership stands as a beacon of innovation and collaboration in the realm of urban policing. Through initiatives like the short film competition, he not only reinforces the importance of traffic rules but also fosters a culture of civic responsibility and engagement that is integral to a thriving city.

In essence, Safin Hassan’s initiative exemplifies how law enforcement can inspire and mobilize communities toward a shared vision of safety and well-being on the city’s roads.
