New Delhi: IAS officer Ajit Kumar (IAS:2006:KL) will continue to hold the additional charge of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MyGov for another six months.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of entrustment of the additional charge to Kumar.
The extension is for six months with effect from June 24, 2026, or until the appointment of a regular incumbent, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Ajit Kumar is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).
Ajit Kumar Was Given MyGov Charge in November 2025
Kumar was first entrusted with the additional charge of CEO, MyGov on November 24, 2025, for a period of six months.
His initial arrangement was scheduled to end on May 24, 2026. However, as a regular incumbent had not been appointed by then, the additional-charge arrangement continued.
The latest ACC approval now formally extends his tenure in the role.
The extension has been made effective from June 24, 2026, ensuring continuity in the leadership of MyGov until a regular appointment is made or further orders are issued.

Ajit Kumar’s Current Role in MeitY
A 2006-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, Ajit Kumar is serving as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.
His continued additional charge of MyGov comes at a time when the government’s digital engagement and citizen-participation initiatives remain an important component of its public communication and governance framework.
MyGov serves as the government’s citizen engagement platform, facilitating interaction between citizens and government institutions and encouraging public participation in governance initiatives.
Kumar’s continuation therefore provides administrative continuity at the organisation until a regular CEO is appointed.
Ashish Chatterjee Repatriated to Tamil Nadu Cadre
In another senior bureaucratic decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the repatriation of Ashish Chatterjee (IAS:1999:TN) to his parent cadre.
Chatterjee is currently serving as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser, Ministry of Steel.
His repatriation has been approved on the request of the Government of Tamil Nadu, with the imposition of an extended ‘cooling-off’ period.
The decision brings his central deputation to an end and clears the way for his return to the Tamil Nadu cadre.
Chatterjee’s Central Deputation
Chatterjee is a 1999-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre and has been serving at the Centre in the Ministry of Steel.
As Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, he has been handling senior-level administrative and financial responsibilities within the ministry.
The ACC’s decision to approve his repatriation follows a request from his parent state government.
The order also specifies an extended cooling-off period, which governs the period an officer must spend in the parent cadre before becoming eligible for another central deputation, subject to applicable rules.
Vikram Dev Dutt Gets Additional Charge of Petroleum Secretary
The Centre has also assigned additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas to Vikram Dev Dutt (IAS:1993:AGMUT).
Dutt is currently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Coal.
His additional charge will be effective from August 23 to August 29, 2026, during the period when Neeraj Mittal (IAS:1992:TN), Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, will be on leave.
The arrangement is temporary and is intended to ensure continuity in the functioning of the Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministry during Mittal’s absence.
Dutt to Handle Two Key Energy Ministries Temporarily
With the additional responsibility, Dutt will temporarily oversee the Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministry alongside his existing responsibilities as Secretary, Ministry of Coal.
Both ministries are part of the country’s critical energy administration, dealing with key areas of coal, petroleum, natural gas and energy security.
His temporary assignment will cover a seven-day period from August 23 to August 29.
Once Neeraj Mittal returns from leave, the additional-charge arrangement is expected to cease unless further orders are issued.
Three Key Bureaucratic Decisions in One Set of Orders
The latest orders involve three senior-level administrative decisions at the Centre.
Ajit Kumar will continue as CEO, MyGov on an additional-charge basis for another six months, while continuing as Joint Secretary in MeitY.
Ashish Chatterjee, Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Steel, has been approved for repatriation to the Tamil Nadu cadre with an extended cooling-off period.
Meanwhile, Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, will temporarily take charge as Secretary, Petroleum & Natural Gas during Neeraj Mittal’s leave from August 23 to August 29.
Together, the decisions ensure continuity in key central government positions while also addressing cadre requirements and temporary vacancies at the senior administrative level.
